Comments (7)Location is South Bend (ND Fighting Irish), Indiana. After I posted, I continued researching and came across Milgard Fiberglass Replacement Windows which come in a "mat black" finish. They have a Lifetime (not limited lifetime) warranty and a transferable 10-year warranty should we sell the house. I found glowing reviews on their products and service so decided to call the 800# to inquire about a dealer in Indiana. Ironically, the women that answered said they do have dealers in Northern Indiana BUT THIS WAS THE LAST DAY THAT THE FACTORY WAS IN PRODUCTION!!! Due to ecconmic conditions they were closing up shop. Figures, I find a good product and they can't stay in business (LOL). Oh well, onward and upward. You stated "inline fiberglass"? Have not heard that term before and will look into that. I really like the idea of a fiberglass product. The closest that I can come to black, however, is the Marvin Infinity in Bronze. Are there any other "good" fiberglass products? What is your experience with the Marvin clad windows. Appreciate your advice and input....See MoreWindow advice for 1930s Spanish
Comments (1)The most common window style for them seems to be a plain multi-pane square glazing (not the assymetric small over large of colonials). Plenty of them had the multi-paned steel framed casements that were so popular in the 1910-50s era. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Spanish-mission-style.jpg Another style with tall casements is having each side be a single pane, like the lower French doors. http://4salebydonna.com/wp-content/gallery/heritage-homes/spanish-colonial-revival.jpg For really tall windows, a non-opening upper part with opening casements beneath works. My intact Spanish Colonial in Phoenix had 6 small over two tall vertical panes, casements. The one across the street had a HUGE arched single pane picture window, and the other windows were the "prairie style" with large center pane surrounded by smaller ones. And some had original (as far as we could tell) single-pane windows where they were non-opening. So you have a wide range of styles that are all "authentic", to the extent that Spanish Revival was authentic. What doesn't work: Diamond-shaped "Tudor" glazing. Those fancy arched curved glazings. Thick frames and separators....See MoreUgly 50s house, corner windows create a problem? Add color?
Comments (7)Change your landscaping. You will fall back in love with your home :) As mentioned above, adding shutters won't help and you don't have the room for them anyway. You have a very nice home. The landscaping is not up to date - it is "blocking" any welcoming entry to your home. Post in the landscaping subforum here on houzz to see what plan those posters can show you. They are truly awesome....See MoreAnna White
