Comments (20)Aynb-- Exactly the same thing (major water damage to our kitchen) happened to me a year ago. I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. You are so lucky you found this site early in your process. I know your pain about living without a kitchen, but I just wanted to tell you that for us it was really, really worth dealing with the kitchen-in-the-garage situation so that we had enough time to make plans. Take some time to set up your temporary life with temporary kitchen (we used downstairs powder room for washing dishes, microwave meals, take out) so you can get your kitchen right! In the FAQ on this forum, there is a lot of really good advice about reconceiving your kitchen and planning well. The only things I regret about our remodel are things where I rushed or had decision fatigue from the fast pace of decisions. Good luck!...See MorePlanning kitchen remodel – need design advice please!
Comments (14)damiarain and mama goose - thank you for those bold and beautiful layouts! You've found a graceful solution to a lot of my wishes. I'm on the fence about windows to the fridge/stove side of the house, because it faces our driveway and the neighbor's (not so attractive) yard and house. But the natural light would be wonderful! Great food for thought, thank you again. I'll have to check the space to see if there's room for dining table in kitchen. What's that great layout software you're using? rantontoo - We don't absolutely need two spaces to eat, and I had thought about shifting that door as you describe -- it would be between kitchen and DR. That way the traffic lane wouldn't go through the kitchen. I just couldn't figure out a good way to do that. Unfinished crawl space is underneath the whole main level where kitchen, etc. are....See MoreAloha! Remodeling 50's Cabin need kitchen advice
Comments (13)Hear you! My daughter’s cottage (Cape Cod), small kitchen is in very good shape as is yours, but she wanted to paint the cabinets. Her walls are S W Grecian Ivory….she painted the cabinets this week, Grecian Ivory gloss converted to B.M.. Kitchen looks bigger, brighter. So, what if, you use Swiss Coffee on the walls, eggshell, and paint the cabinets in Swiss Coffee high gloss. Daughter’s method: she is looking over my shoulder as I type: Sand with 320 grit paper, just to rough it up, prime with B.M. INSL-X, water borne primer, let it dry and do again. Paint one coat B.M. Advantage in Swiss Coffee; lightly sand again with 320 grit, apply second coat of Advantage Swiss Coffee. . Allow 24 hours between each paint application. When you paint, do the Advantage Swiss Coffee in a thin coat. She said the results are like the oil paint of old, yeah, but is water based. I would paint the pantry all Swiss Coffee in what ever finish you choose for the cabinets. What are you doing with the ceiling?...See MoreHU-780762531
