Lighting Design Dilemma Kitchens

Need suggestions for kitchen lighting over off center sink

We have our recessed lighting in the kitchen now, we are trying to figure out what to do over our off center sink. The window behind it is 48" wide and around 3 ft high. We will be putting in a new single sink that is definitely off set. Even the space between window and cupboard on one side is off set more than the other side. Any suggestions for over the sink lighting? Thinking maybe two pendants?

I need pics please . Post here in a comment do not start another post .IMO the sink should if at all possible be centerd on the window so I need to see where you are talking about. Usually only pot lights where unblance is in the space no pendant to bring attention to the off part.

Pics would help for sure - are you open to recessed lighting over the sink as well?

We have the same problem in our dining room. And the real 'ACK' part is that we gutted our whole kitchen/dining area and removed the old ceiling, so we could have addressed it properly the first time. Once the new dining room table was in, it was obvious we would be moving it off centre (pathway to deck is behind table), and we're kicking ourselves. DH is planning to buy a plaster medallion to put up on the ceiling, so that the edge of it will cover the old hole. Luckily, he is an electrical engineer, so he can do the rewiring. I COULD patch the hole, but what a LITERAL pain in the neck. So not only will the fixture be off-centre, but medallion will be too. I am pretty sure it will cost you more than $35 extra on top of the first $35 to rewire in a new location- assuming there is enough wire up there to allow the move. Ours is accessible from the attic.

Thank you all for your replies! I don’t have my heart set on that light or even Edison bulbs necessarily - it was purely an example of a light that I “thought” might work since it was wide enough to cover that spot on the wall. Honestly right now with other projects that we have going on, I really don’t know if want to go down the road of cutting drywall, moving the box, patching, etc. especially considering that we plan on replacing our cabinets in the near future. But I’ll show your comments to my husband and see what he thinks since he’d be doing the work! I do have a window pane mirror that I will try but I still kind of think I’d like a light of some sort. The space between the cabinets is about 42”. There was also a straight wooden valance between the cabinets that we just removed as well. I figured that was a dated look and needed to go too. I like the idea of the larger feature asymmetrical style fixture a lot. The 2nd one - Charleen - is pretty cool! I’ll definitely look into that. And that wooden shelf will go too (forgot to mention that initially) although I am open to using more stylish shelves if I needed to fill the space. I even mulled over the idea of putting a single light where the box is (off-center) and then decorating around it with maybe floating shelves or something to fill the space. I know, I know - probably a bad idea but it was a passing thought. At this point just about anything would be better than the Hollywood lights! Hers another pic of the over sink area if it helps. I would have 2 pots over the sink and centred over window so that one is directly over the sink. Make the chandelier over the eating area a real show stopper since it will be the only decorative light in the kitchen.

1) Change doors to sliding door. 2) Move dresser down to where chair is. Needs a mirror and lamps. 3) Move chair to by fireplace. Needs a table. Does that chair work with your future color scheme? 4) Bed centered on window Best solution, although I'd like to see rest of room. What else is in the room? Need to see all walls. Get the furniture set and then you can come up with a color scheme.

We are in mid tear out so don't mind the mess. We will be doing an undermount single sink in the same area. With this being an older home we are pretty tight for space. The sink location will not change, nor will the cabinet size it sits in. As you can see we tore the bulk head out above. As we have recessed lighting in the rest of the kitchen we were hoping for something different over sink.

I have three windows over my sink in my kitchen which was remodeled 15 years ago. The sink is NOT centered on the middle one. We recessed all the lights above that counter. You might try to arrange the recessed lights so that at least one is located right above your sink. I would not draw any more attention to the asymmetry of your sink location by installing a pendant over the sink. (I had to go and look at where the recessed lights were located above my sink and they appear to be located on either side of the double sink.)

We did recessed lighting over our sink. Many of the pendants over the sink i’ve seen, tend to look dated after a while. Plus, the pendants…whether semi-flush or not, tend to get grimy.

Appreciate your input - is there any other options than recessed lighting? (not my personal preference as I have light sensitive eyes, the recessed lighting in the rest of the kitchen had to be adjusted down to 3000k and on a dimmer).
