What kind of decision are you trying to make - buy the house? Tear out the kitchen? Build this exact kitchen in a different house? More context is needed for meaningful feedback.

The house is bought and there is no budget for renovations. The most I can afford is painting the cabinets, I’m more so looking for decor or small renovation advice. :) if any of that is needed.

It’s a nice kitchen. I agree with Susan, accessories and enjoy. One thing I would probably change is filling in the space above the cabinets and soffit with molding. That section will be a dust magnet over time. Please don’t draw attention by adding stuff to that area.

I agree that it looks ready to live in at this point.

It is the floor I find disjointing not the wood.

I would put molding up to cover that odd gap above the cabinets. They should have done taller cabinets. I don’t love the wood island up against the wood floor but if you get some substantial barstools, it will probably look fine (or you could think about painting island the color of the white cabinets). Totally agree with getting a washable rug to cover a lot of that tile and accessorizing. Otherwise, I think the kitchen will look great once you get settled in.

Thank you everyone! I agree with all of these comments as those are things I noticed as well. They weren’t able to build the cabinets up to the ceiling but we are planning on adding trim (or moulding? Not sure what it’s called) to them in a few months.

I agree that I’ll get a better idea of what the kitchen needs once we move in. I’m just struggling with decor choices because of the kitchen. I also suggested for the island to be painted the same color as the upper cabinets but the builder advised against it. I shouldn’t have listened. She said it would make the kitchen unbalanced but I think it will brighten it up. I’m even thinking of getting only the back and sides of the island painted the color of the upper cabinets. Thoughts on that? Or should I do the whole island? I think a white island will also calm the floor tile a bit.

In terms of the tile, I think a solid light colored rug will balance it out a bit. We want to finish our basement next year, so at that time I can take the tile off the kitchen and they can use it for the laundry room downstairs and I can chose a tile without pattern. I’m hesitant in putting wood floors in the kitchen. I knew it would have looked more uniform, although maybe too wood-y, but I didn’t want to risk the potential water damage.

Thanks everyone for your comments! Definitely reassuring and helpful. It’s just really disappointing when none of the colors look like what you chose in the studio. But that’s a big lesson on the importance of lighting.

Do you have additional lighting in the kitchen? If not add under cabinet lights. The single light fixture over the main floor is underwhelming.

Under cabinet lights are in my Amazon cart! I literally thought the same thing. Additional lighting will also make the tiles less beige and cooler hopefully. I went with white light to achieve this effect.

Your concern about water damage on a wood floor, is unfounded in this day and age. Install water sensor/shutoffs at each water source, and leakages cease to be an issue.

Twice over the past 7+ years, the water sensors saved us. As soon as water was detected, the sensors automatically shut off the water supply. The sensors are attached to an alarm, so we were alerted to the problem.

Your house will look so much better…cohesive and current, with a uniform floor throughout.

Thank you everyone for your comments! We can’t afford to change the floors but we painted the island the same color as the upper cabinets and it made such a difference. I feel like it brightened up the room and modernized it.

That's a huge improvement! The lower cabinets are busy, and on my monitor look quite a bit cooler-toned than the wood floor. But with the island painted, there isn't much lower cabinet right next to the wood flooring. So much calmer and brighter!
