Houseplants for smokers help with smell?
Comments (41)Karen...yes, linner is lunch and dinner. Supposed to be a joke, guess it wasn't funny..similar to brunch. Remember there was a problem with my son? Before the problem, I ate better. Only once did I take vitamins on an empty stomach, NEVER again. Even when I ate better, I'd get sick a day or two after starting vitamins. Not stomach aches. Sore throats, coughs, etc. I bought a B-Complex in liquid form at Walmart..It too is sitting on the shelf with the other vitamins and minerals. Yep, I told my doctor what I 'heard.' He knows how I am when it comes to meds anyway, guess he thought I'd give them a shot. What he didn't know is, when I'm prescribed a new medication, test or surgery, I Google, search the web. Then make up my mind. After 3 sites said, DEATH, 'first line' I knew the pills were going down the toilet. Side effects were awful and very scary. Karen, the pills were Anti-Inflammatories. I don't know if they were non-steroid. After reading your thread, I searched for a site that lists prescription anti-inflammatories. If I heard the name I'd probably recognize it. All I remember is they were oval, orange, and super expensive. The doc gave me a sample box. They're meant to take once a day. They had to be new or semi-new because they only came brand name, no generic. This is how it worked. Docs give enough 'sample' pills to last a week. There's a phone number on the box. You call the number, and they give you a code. The code is basically a coupon for your first order. 75.00 off. I asked the pharmacist the cost..she said it depends on the mgs and our insurance. She also said, expect to pay 'around' 200.00 for a months supply..Out of pocket, not counting insurance. The pills don't contain opiates. One ingredient was the non-aspirin pain medication that they found causes liver damage. I don't use Aleve, sp, Advil, Tylenol, Ibuprofen or Motrin. (For pain, I take one of two powdered asprins: BC's or Goody's.) There's a humongous dossage of the pain med that causes liver problems, and other ingredients in this anti-inflammatory. That's the reason I said, the doc was supposed to tell me not to take aspirin or non-aspirins before and during taking this pill. For one, it will cause severe stomach aches. And other stomach related issues............ Karen, if you, or if anyone else is reading this thread, knows a site w/drug information and pics, will you please give me the address? I checked drug dot com, but didn't find it. The letter V comes to mind, but I checked V's, no luck. Karen, if I find the name, I'll let you know. It pi$$es me off they come out with dangerous meds, and use people as guinea pigs. To make money..What's wrong with old medications? Pills that worked? One doctor said, when we prescribe new drugs a few people will die...That's to be expected..As far as I'm concerned, one person who dies from trying a new medication, 'to get better,' is one too many. That IDIOT!...See MoreAw Aw Check the weather forecast !!
Comments (11)IÂm singing the same song as some of you. I decided I would not cover and let Mother Nature decide upon survival in my garden. But thenÂsomeone at the Garden Club brought in some bromeliads and I took one. First it was in a pot on my lanai but it pupped and then I had two. So I planted one under the palm. And that one pupped. Cold weather descended upon our location and I held fast  I would not cover. And the bromeliad got some brown leaves which I looked at for the rest of the growing season. That bromeliad is a prolific one and after a couple of years my patch under the palms is looking good. Now I cover because I remind myself that for lack of one night of effort, thereÂll be brown leaves the rest of the year. But thatÂs the only plant IÂm going to plant that needs covering. OhÂexcept for the new little Fireball brom thatÂs on the lanai but is pupping. ItÂd make such a colorful groundcover under the (I blame Fawnridge. Have you looked at his garden album? There are enough oohs and aahs there to cause a weak willed gardener to plant a tender tropical(s) that they shouldnÂt.)...See MoreIs range & hood next to window awful?
Comments (22)Wow, you all are AWESOME!!! Thanks so much for taking the time to respond with your perspectives and photos. amysrq said: function was more important to me in this case. I am more of a function gal myself when it comes to my kitchen. I am the chief cook, and in wanting the range next to the window, it's so I can enjoy the view out the window while I'm stirring. And chop in front of the window, like fori said. And because I'm less attuned to imagining interior design types of things in my head, I almost always have to see it before I can see if it would bother me looking at it day after day. ofealia said Maybe what your KD is talking about is how it will look from the side - you'll see the side of the rangehood, (which really aren't always "finished" on the sides) underneath the side of the cabinet. Yeah, I think that you are right that is what he is worried about. Your suggestion is a good one, and with all of the photo examples here, there seem to be tons of options for how to treat the space and look finished. tiskers said I can see why a homeowner could have a lot of ANGST over something like that (I know I would have, too!) - but all those photos above look BEAUTIFUL to me! They look beautiful to me too! Yeah, I got angsty about it because when I asked the designer to try putting the range in that spot because I wanted to see out the window while I was cooking, he launched into his opinion about the hood. And I wasn't expecting *that* reaction. igloochic: thanks so much for posting your photos, because that area of your kitchen matches how mine would be: the corner windows at one end, and the range on that wall with the window on the right side. The difference I have is that I have a wall to the left of the range where you have the doorway and fridge. (It's the wall that my fridge and range currently share. Today, my range is too close to the fridge, imo, and my back will be to the nice view out the window.) I get what you mean about the visual weight and aiming for balance over the whole room, and not just in one part of the room. And after reading your post, I think that that's the key aspect that I need to keep in mind and raise with the designer (Pinot or no Pinot :-) rosie, you are absolutely right! (When you meet with your designer, why don't you ask what can be done to make it work or work even better visually?) I'm hoping that he comes back with some range treatment ideas (say like lisadelrio's airy-looking one or ofealia's suggestion). It's going to prove whether he's got the "know how". :-) I'll post the layout when I get it done in the software program. Maybe in a new thread, so that I can get comments on other aspects of the room at the same time. Thanks again everyone!...See MoreMy Bargain Bedspread -- Not Bugs...Smokers
Comments (44)Thanks, all! Yes, we are home in Chicagoland now, but I hope I can try some of these great-sounding remedies when we get back to the condo next January. I've double-bagged the spread and put it in Owner Storage. I've told our cleaner to inform me if she starts to smell it, in which case it will have to go 'home' to the Salvation Army for someone else to puzzle over. I wish I'd known that I could try charcoal or baking soda -- they could be *working* while we are gone! Meanwhile I am using a very nice -- not AS nice -- plain coral spread and shams that I got at Macy's "on sale". ($80). Brushworks -- Do you know what is the active ingredient in the OdoBan? (Love the Q & A's that ask if you can wash your dog in it! heehee)...See MoreAnnegriet
