Photos of my first two clematis blooming in my garden
Comments (2)Nice pictures. I'm NOT one of those who dislike Hagley Hybrid. I like it enough that I have two of them. They are in the shade during the middle of the day and even though they do fade I still like them....See MoreMy First Attempts at a Cottage Garden - Lots of Photos
Comments (18)Oy vey my seasons are terribly off this year! After having a baby I didn't do too much gardening, aside from a ladder I covered with morning glories. I planted some bulbs that didn't do a whole lot but hopefully will next year. Kathi - Thank you so much! The foxgloves seem to do really well here. The original plants are about bloomed out and I don't expect them to return next year. They have reseeded all over though and this spring I think had about 11 babies that bloomed from that original three foxgloves I planted. They are all white though, but I adore foxgloves and welcome any color baby that decides to grow in my garden. :) pippi - So sorry for taking literally MONTHS to respond! I have a now six month old that I pretty much devoted the summer to. Now it's fall and my mind is turning to winter sowing and I'm hoping to find the time to garden more next year. I have a 9 year old who will have to babysit so Mom can get some gardening done. Here it gets a bit too cold to plant seeds in the fall for next spring, but I do summer sow and plant small plants that go dormant and return larger the following year. All of the foxgloves except for one that I have now were sale plants I purchased from Walmart for a couple bucks after they were done. They returned beautifully, though I doubt those original plants will come back next year. They did leave lots of babies and I'm thrilled with that! I agree the yellow yarrow is pretty aggressive, actually ALL of the yarrow I have is pretty hardy and aggressive but managable. I love it and have divided it and put it all around my house and barns. Memo - Thank you so much! I am working on it. The Dames Rocket grows as a weed out here and my Mom sort of laughed at me when I actually PAID for it and put it in my garden!!! LOL* It is gorgeous though and one of my favorite things. I did not return this spring, I'm sad to say! It was outdone by some overzealous daisies and rudbeckia that I will be thinning out next spring. The goosneck while pretty is a real nightmare and I'm planning on pulling out all of that next year too....See MoreMy garden is peaking
Comments (18)Oh my goodness, I'm going to save all of these comments and read them whenever I get blue. Or when I am sick to death of dividing irises and pulling bermuda grass! You are all so kind, and you all have great vocabularies. I have lived here for 20 years, but I didn't start to garden in earnest until about ten years ago. The flower garden is actually very small, not like the gardens most of you have. I concentrate all of my energies there. Schoolhouse, the green ground cover between the flagstones is dichondra and weeds. GGG, Very little lives here through the summer. I garden for the spring and fall now. The paludosum daisies will be yanked some time in the next few weeks and I will try, unsuccessfully, to fill in with white vincas. Aimeekitty, yes, the foxgloves are my main indulgence. I buy them as started plants in the winter and they usually last until May. They are very thirsty, unlike the roses and irises, so I keep them in one spot near the Calla lilies. Annie, you really know how to make a person feel good. I have become quite adept at creative photo cropping, and I don't take photos of my front yard at all. This is the first year my flower garden has come together after ten years of moving plants, walkways, sprinklers, and making horrible mistakes. I appreciate all of your kind comments. I have been deadheading paludosum daisies, and will have plenty of seed for anyone who would like some. Just send me a private email and I'll stick a packet in the mail to you. Comments (6)naturegirl, when i first started growing peppers, i did it because i loved the plant and flowers of the plant, not because i was such a pepper fan and wanted the heat. i grew up in a family where the only thing spicy was when my dad would get drunk and start pouring tabasco sauce into moms spaghetti sauce. i don't know where he kept the bottle hid(tobasco, not pearl beer--that was obvious), but it always came out on saturday nights at said time. we ALWAYS had spaghetti on saturday night. anyway, after starting to grow peppers for the fun of it, i decided that if i was going to grow the darn things, i was going to at least try them. now after growing peppers for the last 5 years...i can take the heat, or at least much more than before. my wife, who used to be really wimpy about heat, is now saying about peppers she could and would not eat before, "that wasn't so hot, we need hotter?" it just goes to show that you can build up your heat tolerance and will be glad you do. not only that, once you quit anticipating HOW ITS GUNNA BURN.....maybe then you will realize how each different type of pepper has its own unique flavor, and start enjoying peppers more and more. they really are yummy........PLUS, they are great for your health....go for it naturegirl and welcome to the yummy world of peppers---enough said----peas and peppers---bob...See Moreorganic_kitten
