i am not willing to rely on your guess.. we need a picture.. or you take some leaves to the county extension office.. once FULLY ID'd .. then we deal with the problem.. we dont start using chemicals.. until we are sure ... all that said.. leaf damage on a recently transplanted tree .. transplanted out of season. is VERY common ... and not indicative of anything but the stress of shipping and planting ... ken i am presuming transplant on these words: nursery had over-mulched our tree at the trunk so instead removing all the mulch I dug up most of the mulch at the trunk to let it "breathe". -->>> clarify otherwise ... @hoosierquilt I think 45 is the overall room temperature. Since the tree is placed near the windows and the window is not well insulated, there was probably freezing guts of wind coming from outside and onto the tree.

Jess, Anytime you plant a dogwood you are taking a chance. During the last four decades, anthracnose has attacked dogwood trees on both coasts and slowly moved inward into the center of the country. I think anthracnose finally hit dogwood trees in Texas and Oklahoma in the 1990s. With anthracnose you will see fungal spots on the leaves and then they become more and more discolored. Severely infected leaves do drop prematurely and, eventually, the tree will die. I'm not saying your tree has anthracnose, but just want you to be aware of it and watch for it. Most fungal sprays do not seem effective in stopping the infection from eventually killing the trees. Some dogwood cultivars have been developed that are somewhat resistant to anthracnose, but none are totally immune to it. I know that dogwood trees are lovely in bloom and that is why most people plant them, but they have a hard time surviving in our climate. The native rough-leaved dogwoods don't seem as sickly to me as the larger-leaved non-natives. Dawn

Do not place your order until you're certain about your choices. Yes, your KD (or cabinemaker) will probably pressure you to do it now, but push back...you have to live with this kitchen, they do not. We went through 3 or 4 iterations of cabinet choices and each time my KD wanted to "get them ordered," but I pushed back until I was certain I was happy w/our choices. Keep this mantra in mind and repeat it to everyone you need to throughout the remodel: This is my kitchen, not yours. I have to live with this. You'll finish up and be gone, but I will still be here. I want it done right (or to my specifications or to make me happy). Yes, it might be easier or faster to do it your way, but that is not what I want. All changes/fixes/etc. need to be approved by me before you make them. You may have to add, but not unless you have to... I'm paying you to do this kitchen right. Stand firm! Do not let them bully you or try to "persuade" you to do it their way unless you are certain you will be OK (now & forever) with what they are proposing. Also, don't let yourself fall into the "I'm too tired to deal with this, so do whatever" OR "I'm sick of dealing with this, I just want it done, so do whatever" modes. You are certain to be unhappy later. Once it's done, you won't remember the hassles (at least not much) and will be glad you stood your ground...even if it meant adding weeks or months to the job. Remember: This too shall pass!
