Still waiting for bloom so here's some spring color

H. dumortieri is still blooming and we have one seedling with a leftover scape from last season that will bloom in a couple of days. The next ones to bloom are probably about two weeks away. So here are some spring flowers.

We always grow violas in the spring.

The old roses are blooming. Here is Rose de Rescht, one of my favorites. It's very fragrant too.

This is the iris corner. Disregard the weeds. I took this picture before Bob weeded.

I have been enjoying these small iris. The one on the left is Bumblebee Deelite and the one on the right is Bold Imp. The color on the standards of Bold Imp is not so orange--more of a brown.

I don't know the names of the last two. Bob bought the striped one from the hybridizer several years ago, but we don't remember his name nor the name of the iris.

I like the color of this one.

I love the violas! They look so bright when they are all packed into a ball of color! The iris are pretty too. I like them all but that striped one is a real looker.

I really like the Striped NOID Iris. Batik is about the only striped Iris I was familiar with, but apparently there are others out there too..........Love Pansies. I waste my money on them every fall. They almost never survive our winters. However, the first plant I bought in early spring this year were some Johnny Jump Ups. Couldn't go without a dose of violas/pansies. They are still blooming to beat the band as I type this..........Maryl

Thank you Linda, yup, that's the view from my backyard. It's beautifull. F4F, the tibouchina likes cool weather. Right now, we are having dry heat in the 100s and the flowers don't last at all. They wither by noon. In the fall, when temperatures are nice and cool, the flowers last up to a couple of days and the shrub covers itself in neon purple flowers. Tropicalnut, Arizona is WAY too hot and dry. It will be a big change. Even though some areas in southwestern AZ are close to being sub-tropical desert, they get very little rain and have lots of water limitations. Sure, you can grow plumeria, royal poinciana, bismarckia nobilis...but there are the downsides. Tucson is another warm region of AZ. They are more conservative about their water and garden with mostly natives and near-natives, while Phoenix is more deliberate about their water usage and have spans of green lawn, which is something quite rare in Tucson. I'd say if you want to grow tropical stuff, move to Hawaii where you won't have any limitations in water and won't ever have to worry about frosts.

While it was exciting at first last year to get early scapes, in the long run it was the pits because bloom season was over so darn fast. I am happy to go back to our regularly scheduled bloom times. This spring has been the opposite of last year. Hot spring last year, cold spring this year. I have also found that getting Tall Bearded Iris really helped in that there is that entire iris bloom season way before the daylilies. Nancy, do take pictures of your lilies in bloom. Mine don't have buds yet.

Im so tired of the current weather. Ahhhhh no matter what happens, if you had a slightly mild/warm winter, it will always make up for it with either 2nd half of the winter being record breaking cold or winter last throughout the spring...Its forcasted to go 2/4c overnight for the next 2 days. I think I will through my plants outside on Wednesday as Im seeing overnight temps after tuesday around 8c to 10c range. currently my kitchen floor around the window is covered with plants just waiting to go out. My led died so they didnt get light for I dont know how long. Its sort of dire and Im itching for the weather to get warmer. Very nice plants btw. A few of mine dried out and died, didnt really take care of them.

Thanks everyone, for looking and for commenting! It is weird how everything is so early this year, while some of you are running late. We did have a late spring here, so I would have expected things to be later than normal here too. I guess the clocks on most of the plants are messed up. Sherry, I hope things dry up for you soon and that you're able to enjoy your blooms! That is a LOT of rain. We could use rain here, they keep forecasting it and then nothing at our house. Debra, I do not do anything special with any of my plants, no special mulching... they are not pampered at all. Picture In Picture is far from the house, on the end of newer rectangular bed; I got in fall 2016. Arctic Lace is closer to the house, maybe 20 feet from a brick wall on the west side of the house. I have had it for going on 5 years (started with two small fans) and it has not increased very quickly - but I just went out and counted and it looks like I have seven scapes, so that is better than I would have thought. Celeste, too funny about the same clematis! I have a few others too (Niobe and Huldine, and a couple of others), but they are in pots and don't do that well... and the ones I put in pots eventually die off. Will be interesting to see if a lot of your daylilies are early too... and I look forward to seeing your pictures soon! Maryl, FDCL is a light yellow. I'll try to get a better/closer picture of a bloom at some point. It's dark, drizzly and dreary here now.

Such pretty iris! My iris clump looks sad compared to last season. I have some self seeded viola that pop up here and there in my front garden bed, a nice surprise.

Gorgeous iris. My iris are almost finished now, a lot did not bloom at all so did not put on much of a show this year. Do you remember if the hybridizer';s name was Kasperek? He did a lot of broken color iris, and I have had that one here. Some of the broken color for some reason seem to not bloom every year, so they get passed on. You may not have dayliliy blooms but still nice color going on.

Nancy, we don't remember the name of the hybridizer, but it is possible. I noticed that he had produced several striped ones in Schreiner's catalog when I was looking the other day. We bought several, but not any striped ones.

Deep blue iris looks like Stepping Out. The broken pattern may be Peekaboo Zebu. Didn't have a great iris year here either, though people on Facebook have been raving about what a great year it was.

Very nice. I see clematis blooming too. I haven't planted any iris in our new place yet. Maybe this year or maybe not. lol.
