Mock Orange: can I keep it a reasonable size?
Comments (7)to keep a mock orange within some bounds.. google: rejuvenation pruning of flowering shrubs that is a 3 year system of pruning.. removing the oldest growth ... as close to the soil as you can ... NEVER prune at height ... though thoroughly glorious in bloom.. it is a rather ugly plant the rest of the year ... it will NOT fit there ... and even if you did force it in.. frankly.. it will ruin the aesthetic of your glorious entryway ... it would be like putting a pro footballer player in a ballet.. and saying.. oh, but he is such a good football player ... yeah.. sure.. he is.. but he doesnt belong there .... [hows that for an analogy .. lol] ken...See MoreShould I keep this Moro Blood Orange
Comments (9)Yes, Duarte Growers are a reputable company, and provide quite a bit of citrus for Lowe's, Home Depot and Costco around here. And dancer, if you copy the .html code right into the body of your message, the photo will appear right in your message. Better than a link :-) And I've got some things to pot up too, but it's in the mid-80's here today, and slated to hit high 80's tomorrow. Plus it's humid. We must be getting some monsoon weather pushing up from the Gulf of Mexico. Hate this muggy hot stuff we get here occasionally. Ugh. Time to flip on the air conditioner, bummer! Comments (5)Ashley, I've never ordered cuttings online -- I'm assuming when you say cuttings that they're without roots -- but the few plants I've bought online have had a bit of an adjustment period after being potted up. They tend to look a little rough but eventually settle in. This is just my experience. You never know what the cuttings went through prior to arriving on your doorstep. Sometimes it takes a bit for prior damage or poor treatment to become visible. Are the rocks in there to hold everything upright or just as a top dressing? It's good that you didn't water -- cuttings with no roots can't use the water and risk rot. You should research the individual cultures of the cuttings so you can make sure plants in community pots are compatible. For example, cacti shouldn't room with plants that need more frequent watering or different light levels. Comments (4)Al Tapla would you be able to tell me what is wrong with mine? I've had this tree four four years and never had any trouble with it but now I am killing it! I wanted it to grow more branches so I pruned it and moved it to a sunny-er spot and added grow lights and started fertilizing more regularly. Next thing I know, it's getting yellow blotches all over the leaves and sometimes red speckles and tiny pin holes. I found spider mites on a different plant, but I couldn't see any on this one, but I hosed it off and sprayed with dish soap in case it was mites. Then the soil was soaked and wouldn't dry and a week and a half later this leaf turned black and dry in the center. I thought maybe it was because the soil was wet too long. I freaked out, so just yesterday I did a full repot (never done this before) and added perlite and orchid bark mix to potting mix to get a grittier faster drying mix. I also cut off half of the leaves. It really doesn't look too happy today (droopy leaves and soft stems and even more red speckling on new leaves) I don't know if it's been given too much light, too much fertilizer, too much water, or is infected with mites, or all of the above. Anything you can suggest? The tiny pin-holes make me think mites are one the table but I hate to stress it out more if it's not that....See MoreFori
