That stinks, doesn't it? This may be 'out there', but I wonder if you could get a recessed light fixture put into the porch ceiling that uses a low wattage bulb that would cast some light toward the door there inexpensively. I think it would make a huge difference in giving a welcoming look to the house, and I'd use it during the day, and have it on a separate switch from the one that controls the ones on either side of the doors. That would also allow you a larger palette since you'd be able to SEE the doors.

Agree, a medium brown is timeless and goes with everything. Also, making a large decision like flooring based on paint isn't usually recommended. Paint is easy to change and has so many options- flooring not so much.

I wonder if I added molding to the lower walls the columns sit on and painted them white, would they look more like built-in pieces and help to divide the family room from the foyer and nook better? That way I would have the option of painting the foyer and upstairs hallway a different color, maybe Revere Pewter, since it does better in that lighting. How would you handle a home that has three different areas of light? Zone 1 being the foyer/front of house (north sunlight), zone 2 the middle part of the house (kitchen, nook, family room with all indirect sunlight), and zone 3 the morning room (east, south, west sunlight).
