Hiding a 6 inch filler on a Wood-Mode cabinet
Comments (11)The good news is that the kitchen designer is going to see about getting a beadboard panel to cover the whole cabinet side. We discussed putting on a chamford edge on the front side of the panel. To make sure it fits, she says that she'll order it slightly longer than required and then have someone scribe it in. We are hopeful that the new "someone" doing the scribing will be more skilled than the other people. Crossing fingers. Why did the 6 inch filler become necessary? Without guessing, I only know what I have been told: This cabinet and the cabinet to the right were ordered as a perimeter pair, attached to each other. My wall is not a straight wall, however. The wall sinks backwards 6 inches. So, the cabinets were placed 6 inches from the wall leaving a 6 inch gap behind both the loveseat and the left cabinet. A small wall (unplanned and unexpected, at least by me) about 21 inches high was built so that there would be something behind the loveseat and the other cabinet. There was still a gap. I was assured it would be taken care of. Finally, while the tile people were putting the tile down, the mismatched piece of 6 inch wide filler was placed and the tiling was completed in that spot very quickly. The tile job was another nightmare I won't recount here. So, that is how it happened. Why it doesn't match? I am told that it is a different batch of my paint finish and each batch can vary. Thankfully, this problem is hopefully going to be solved. I am really hopeful that everything goes as planned and the side of this cabinet is made to be presentable. Here are other pics of the cabinet area being discussed:...See MoreStanding-seam color for cedar and black home
Comments (10)Hi, Thanks for chiming in. I hesitate to do a color, because I think we don't want anything to clash with future paint changes. For example, we may tire of the Swedish looking black panels and opt to paint them barn red (our runner up choice) someday. These aren't our final elevations below, but they are darn close. The light areas are the cedar, and the darker areas are the board and batten: This post was edited by Kiwigem on Mon, Aug 4, 14 at 22:30...See MoreSingle Gable Seeking an Attractive .... Accessory? Comments (39)I am worried that that middle section is too boxy or squatty. To me it appears too wide for the height of the roof in that section. It is too late to do anything about that so I guess that is why I was looking for trim or siding selections or something to help out. The plans call for a 6" hardie reveal. It is located just inside the farthest edge of the "Historic District", so that is why the siding has to be a 6" reveal. All changes need to be reviewed to fit in with the historic code for "Old Town" Bay St. Louis, MS. After seeing these latest photos, should I ask for the shingle siding there? On the whole house? On just the middle section of the dormer? Any trim or corbels or anything to enhance the appearance? https://www.jameshardie.com/products/hardieshingle-siding?loc=refresh https://www.baystlouis-ms.gov/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/bsl_hpc_design_guidelines_opt.pdf...See MoreBoard and batten Accent wall... with widow??!
Comments (48)I like the window over your bed. I didn't mean to sheetrock over it. I have over 50 windows, a fair amount floor to ceiling, two sets french doors, two wide sliders and other glass doors in my house. I'm hardly window phobic. Except of course when paying for them to be cleaned! So, the more windows the better for me. I do not however think the gold frame will go with the other furniture unless you incorporated well in the decor plan by adding more gold and glam. I'm all for eclectic, you should see my living room! It would be interesting to use some kind of carved wood as a frame. Something the same wood as the bed and mesh with MCM. I browsed a few ideas. None of them to my eye are perfect but you get the idea. It would really elevate the room and bring in some texture to balance the smooth teak bed. https://www.houzz.com/plans/wood-carvings-pp~4695272?stepId=saved ETA, The window frame, if carved, should not be too fancy or foo foo, no flowers, birds, etc or too rustic. Using a frame it will draw a lot of attention to the large window in an unusual spot. You might want to first see how a thin teak frame would look, a minimalist look to blend with the MCM bed....See MoreMark Bischak, Architect
