Replace Basement windows
Comments (2)On new homes I've built, I either used poured-in place windows (the whole window is mounted on the forms and concrete is poured around them) or left an opening and installed aluminum sliders directly, screwing the frames into the foundation with concrete screws. It's just a matter of cosmetics....See MoreBest replacement options for large fixed picture windows?
Comments (7)WindowsonWashington, thank you for your helpful response. I will check out the 3M film but wonder if it will have the clarity of the two products I have already checked out. Many do a good job for less $$$, but I want the film to let in almost as much light as the window without any film. This is a difficult mission to fulfill and the two samples I have meet this criteria. I'll let you know how 3M compares to the competition I'm putting it up against. When you refer to the large custom vinyl windows, are you referring to mine, to the huge ones by seeking sun, or to both of us? Also, I don't understand how any window film could cause a window failure. SeekingSun, the post was edited as I forgot to add that I will certainly keep you posted how my search progresses. I don't want another winter in a house with covered windows for half the day so want to make a purchase as soon as possible after doing my due diligence. Comments (4)update: We've ruled out Kas-Kel and are now deciding between Simonten ProFinish Brickmould 600 double gliders (0.3 U-factor; 0.28 SHGC; 0.53 VT) and Paradigm 8300 NC double gliders (0.28 U-factor; 0.28 SHGC; 0.52 VT), both are low E, argon filled. Their prices are comparable. As above, we are buying sight-unseen (grrr!!). We have only managed to find/see double-hung for the Paradigm and a lower-end Simonten (not Brickmould). Of these, Paradigm had cleaner welds and smoother operation, but again, we didn't have a direct comparison for our window type nor even the window series that we are actually contemplating. I would appreciate any thoughts on our comparison or additional questions we should be asking about these two options!...See MoreIn-swing awning window to replace old basement window
Comments (4)I want reiterate this window is not intended to meet code. The height and opening size would already exclude it. There are proper escape windows where needed. This is just added insurance and we want to replace this window anyway. If it works out we may replace the remaining with this type of window. They're not common but I know they exist. I'll probably make some calls today....See Moremillworkman
