The 12-light chandelier will overwhelm the space, and I would recommend going with the 8 light version. Your table could handle the larger version, but width of the room is too small, and it would look out of proportion. Draw an elevation of your dining room, and you will be able to see this. Lars

That's a very large room. I think you should go with the larger fixture. OR -- and if this is completely nuts, someone else will say so -- what about using two of the smaller fixtures? I mean spaced out so that both ends of the very long table receive light.

The recommended size is min 2/3 of the table size, so I don't think it's too small. You don't want to go too big especially with a 9' ceiling height, it might create a crowded feeling when you are dining.
