Thanks so much for your opinions! Wow...I must say that I'm a bit surprised from the responses! For some reason, I totally thought that I was going to get more "go with the smaller" - but it seems that the larger is the favored choice here. Just 1 more thought to throw out there...given the table width is only 38" - a 32" dia chandelier would mean there would only be a 3" "space cushion" on each side for those seated in the central chairs. I know the rule is that the light should hang at least 30" above the table...but do you think this will interfere & people might hit their heads at all? I'm super excited that you are all helping me to make a decision. I've been so wishy-washy about this...worrying that if place the order, and get it...it would not be the right size...and I could only imagine how much of a hassle & costly it would be to ship back to exchange. And thanks for the compliments on my selection - i REALLY love it, and hope it is just perfect in our DR. Thanks!

Thanks everyone. I actually can't believe I hadn't thought of using that rug in there before. bmallon - I wasn't sure if the sideboard was too fru-fru with the flowers and all. I have some ideas, so I run them by you all when I get the chance. I'm feeling pretty good about the chair pads too. It's funny, but with the old oriental rug, they seemed off to me - but with this one, they really do work! I'm thrilled.

It seems like a standard squarish room. Many dining tables are rectangular in their smallest configuration. As long as you usually use the table in the size of your photo, I personally wouldn't go with a rectangular light - especially if it required extra mounting points. Stick with a traditional circular/globe/roundish chandelier. Gives you more options down the line without having to patch holes in the ceiling. Discalimer on next comment: I've never refinished a chandelier with spray paint. I think there is enough detail on your chandelier that refinishing could easily look sloppy if you're not very careful during the process. Don't forget to get a new chain if you do refinish (assuming you're not going to go through trouble of spraying all sides of that). Anyhow, I would suggest a new chandelier if the budget allows. I like your choice. Assuming you stick with open chandelier and candelabra style bulbs, add some nice flame (bent) tip, frosted, 2700 K, ~300-400 lumen, dimmable LED bulbs while you're at it. Something like this: https://www.satco.com/s9869.html They aren't cheap, so budget for that if you have a lot of bulbs and decide to go with LED. Also, you may need to upgrade your dimmer for LED. The dining room won't be utilized much, only formal occasions so it's more for looks. Would you put different color ghost chairs on the ends of the table then?
