Updating my dining room - advice needed!
Comments (17)Thanks everyone. I actually can't believe I hadn't thought of using that rug in there before. bmallon - I wasn't sure if the sideboard was too fru-fru with the flowers and all. I have some ideas, so I run them by you all when I get the chance. I'm feeling pretty good about the chair pads too. It's funny, but with the old oriental rug, they seemed off to me - but with this one, they really do work! I'm thrilled....See MoreHELP!! URGENT DINING ROOM ADVICE needed!!
Comments (3)The plates have a blue rim don't they? If so I think a darkish blue/grey such as hicks blue or juniper ash by Little Greene with bronze accents. I will send some pics shortly to illustrate the theme I'm proposing. I would keep the red to a bare minimum... just on the plates....See MoreDining Room Chandelier Help Needed
Comments (3)It's actually a great fixture, just not for your dining room. (Advertise it on Craigslist or replace a kitchen light with it.) Here's an article on proper measurements for a dining pendant that will be in proportion to the room and table and tell you how low to hang it. https://www.houzz.com/magazine/how-to-choose-a-dining-table-light-stsetivw-vs~91245713 A white or ivory round drum shade pendant with bronze finish would offer contrast with your dark table and sideboard. A round shade also reaches everyone around the table....See MoreDining Room Starting Over--Need table and Lighting Advice
Comments (3)Thank you, Patricia. I am trying to find a place for the cabinet. I like your idea of putting it in a closet. It was hard downsizing and losing 1500 square feet of space. I got rid of a lot of furniture! Below is a sideboard that I still have in another room which I can use in the dining room if I need something to "ground" the picture. (Sorry for the picture quality.) I still have the Marge Carson dining room chairs (one seen in the picture), so I don't need chairs. I put in another outlet in centered on the picture wall so that lamp cords plugged in the wall won't show like this one does in the picture. Even though my dining room is open to the kitchen, I want something dramatic for this dining room. It deserves a statement chandelier (thinking about a gold/gilded one. The room was previously painted BM Van Deusen Blue. I remodeled the kitchen and took down the wall between the two rooms to let in more light. Then I changed the color to BM Ballet White. I miss the blue... I like your idea of a round table. Would you suggest that I use a round or square rug? I just need to be mindful of the passageway from the foyer to kitchen that goes down one side of the dining room. This area of circulation is used a lot. Below is a shot of my living room to give you an idea of the space near the dining room. I hope this helps to spark some ideas....See MoreFairway Style Living
