And work on the landscaping.

In terms of paint colors.

If you keep the brick as is, I think a darker paint color for the siding would work better.
I’d probably go with black.

If you are open to/prefer you can do lighter palette and white wash or smear the brick.

Larger posts and bigger shutters that are each equal to half a window. I would paint the shutters a dark, dark green.

IMO paint tjhe siding a color that actually works with the brick. larger posts no brackets and I love this look for all the trim painted the same as the siding and I would remove the shutters then go to work on some really nice landscaping

A ranch is one story, so this is a suburban colonial. I agree with the shutters and front door a dark green (if the shutters can't be removed without leaving shadows on the siding). The color of the siding goes well with the roof, but could be better coordinated with the brick. Hopefully changing the shutters and front door will make enough difference for you. If you decide to change the siding, something a lighter, creamy color would look better with the brick. I can't tell what style the front door is. Or is there a storm door on it? If the door is original you might want to look at new ones.

Yes, lots of orange/brown. This is SW Connected Gray (green with low saturation). I would either ditch the shutters or get some that fit the windows better. I wasn’t able to paint them on my iPad. Pick a door color that works with the roof.

Beverly’s first before&after example shows exactly what your house needs. The right side requires something that balances out the left - in her example it’s porch railings. You need to save for extending the roof overhang so you can mimic this photo. And yes, the posts need to be beefed up.

I did't know what to call the house style and I'd seen others reference a raised brick ranch so I thought that was what it is, but just knowing it's called a Suburban Colonial helps tremendously in my search for ways to update it. The door is a wooden door with a rectangle of leaded glass in it. There's no storm door.

I really appreciate all of the input everyone. I'm not a fan of fake shutters so I'll probably remove them and add larger trim around the windows, as well as large columns and just lean in to a subtle colonial look. I'm not a fan of the orange brick so I'll have to chew on whether or not I can live with it and just have the vinyl siding painted a darker color or if I should just using a masonry paint on the brick and do the whole thing a lighter color. We don't close on it for about a month and I'm so itchy to get over there and start on the landscaping. 😐

I would pick up color for siding from your brick.

I am a bit concerned about the front step going into your home. It appears that there is a rather small concrete step bridging the space between the porch and your front door, merely the width of your door. I would try to beef this up, widening it for safety. In time I would suggest deepening the porch in width so that it is more than a sidewalk depth. Turn it into a more functional, welcoming space. Your home has a lot of potential. Enjoy it!

Raised ranch is what your house would be called in my area too.

@ptreckel I agree. I actually want to raise the whole front porch and continue it across the front of the house, but that's a project that will probably have to wait a bit. I appreciate the validation though because I would probably second guess myself and decide it was too much work.

C Tang, I think it is a regional “thing” to call it a raised ranch. In my part of the world (NE. Ohio) we call it a “colonial,” although it is anything but one! HA! A “raised ranch” in my area is what many would call a bi-level home or, in Canada, a Back-split. Regardless…you have a nice home. And it has lots of potential. One step at a time!
