I have been very busy and not checking in to this forum. Thanks to all for the comments. The contractor installed the Duravit Vero sink/counter and the FOGO vanity, and I am not happy. Having been very busy with my day job, I was not able to watch closely how thoroughly they installed the blocking between the studs, and came home one day and the wall was closed (tiled) in. So I had no choice but to trust the contractor and wait till he installed the Duravit. Now the vanity seems to be hung solidly, but the countertop/sink (one piece ceramic, which wieghs about 80 lbs) is about 1/8th inch away from the wall at the top, but touches the wall at the bottom of the skirt (5 inch high skirt) I can move the sink up and down that 1/8 inch. When I open the vanity drawer, the top of the drawer bumps against the bottm of the countertop skirt. The contractor says when we put things in the drawer, it will weigh down and this won't happen. I knew at the time this was bull, but was so dumbfounded at his attitude, I was not sure how to respond. I suspect that he is affraid to tighten the two lag bolts the extra 1/8 inch for one reason or another. On possible reason is that he is affraid to crack the ceramic. Another is that (I am just guessing at this) he mounted the bolts too deep into the wall, so that there is not enough of the bolt left to turn (?Guessing) Does anyone have any ideas on (a) what went wrong inside the wall, and (2) how to handle this contractor, who is very moody (some days very accomodating and other times, very stubborn). Note: the instructions call for mounting this entire ceramic one-piece sink/contertop (41 inches wide x 19 inches deep x 5 inches high) with two lag bolts (about 1/2 in) through the back of the ceramic skirt into the wood framing. So I imagine the ceramic is strong enough to handle it.

One of my pet peeves is drawers that are too shallow! It always seems, even with makeup, that I just need a scooch more room for even the tiniest bottle to stand upright. Since we had our vanity custom made, I had the drawers made exactly the depth I wanted. I measure what I figured would go in each drawer, literally folding and stacking towels, and pulling out the measuring tape...LOL. I did have U-shaped drawers made, and since there would be no drainpipes behind the top drawer, ie just sink, had the U go further back to gain a couple more inches. I have no U in the bottom drawer, but I wish I had specified that it go back another couple of inches too, as DH arranged the plumbing so that it cleared the bottom drawer. U-shaped drawers can be quite expensive if going with cabinet lines, that's why it actually made having them custom made by a cabinet maker an economical choice for us. Vanity was expensive, but it's beautifully made, exactly what we want, not limited by preset increments determined by a catalogue. As Babka said, be clear as to the inside dimensions of the drawer, whether glides will be bottom mount or side mount for instance, and make sure vanity will be kitchen height to gain a couple more inches!

We have a long one in our master. I love the extra foot space, but it seems like I'm always dropping something on the floor and of course whatever it is rolls all the way back to the wall and I have to get on my hands and knees to reach under to grab it. The cats also think it's a fun place to hang out. We are going to remodel at some point, and this is one of our discussion items. I'm not so sure I require floating going forward.

Thank you for helping me settle this. I really appreciate it. I too felt that it was a strong piece which did not have a place in the master bedroom suite. I really like using antique furniture for the bathroom. Thank you for helping me follow my instinct to have the buffet left by the first owner refinished. It has a farmhouse feel and it weighs a ton. I like the idea of having a higher sink vanity in order to avoid bending down so far. I hear vanities are being built higher which makes sense to me. A friend has 750 sq feet of travertine (don't need all of it and will have to be filled, sealed, and polished which would do well for shower walls) with interesting decorative tile around. The wood floors can be left and only need to be refinished. I so love the idea of copper sinks and the buffet (perfect length, height, and depth) with decorative tile possibly copper.
