Willow-leaf sunflower - optimal conditions

I bought a willow-leaf sunflower (Helianthus salicifolius) "Autumn Gold" a couple years ago and had to move it. It's in a mostly sunny spot, but I noticed today that is in the path of the drainage from the downspout. Is this a plant that prefers drier conditions or will relatively moist suit it just fine? I am blessed with beautifully friable soil that is moisture-retentive yet drains well, but I am thinking maybe I should re-think this particular location.
