concern about fridge fitting in doorway
Comments (2)Marlene501, my 33" wide refrigerator from LG with the water on the door and the ice in the freezer would not fit through my sliding door either. The delivery men took the door off and reinstalled the door so it was not a problem. I wanted the 36" LG with no water on the door but a friend didn't think it would have fit the opening in my kitchen but he was wrong since I have 3 extra inches on the side and that upsets me since I did not want water on the door being that I prefer the clean look of a door with nothing on it. I should have trusted my own measurements. But the door comes off and can be installed back on again so you have no worries. I had to hire a plumber since I had no water line and now I have to keep buying filters for my refrigerator but I do love the French Door refrigerator so much. I love having a bottom freezer where I can reach everything since I am not quite 5 feet. I love not having to move a kitchen chair out of the way to open the refrigerator door. By the way, my little dogs get the filtered water for their water dishes now and I use the filtered water for my coffee in the morning. But I still drink Poland Spring Bottled water all day. My dogs and coffee used to use the bottled water also. Hope this helps you....See MoreQuality Sleeper Sofa
Comments (22)Dear NYC LOVER, When I read your original posting asking for advice on a sleeper sofa/chaise I was happy to see it was the exact same thing I am looking for- style, size and everything! It's funny because I actually just came home from Jensen Lewis where I found the Cadet by Cerrito. It is the one I like the best, but it is just so expensive. I saw one at Macy's- Portofino by Max Home for only $1200. It seems comfortable and has a great flip-flop chaise so you can switch sides, but I am scared of the quality and I can't find much information about it online. I wonder why some couches are close to $4000 and others are only around $1000. I am very curious to know why you chose the Tyler by Carter. Did you see it at Jensen Lewis? I looked at it online and love the look, but what are the dimensions? I couldn't tell from the website. It seems like it might be 117" with the chaise. I can't go over 110." Also, you mentioned you saved $1000 over retail. How? Do you know if it is possible to find the Cerrito sofa online for less? I must decide soon if I should just buy the Cerrito or keep looking. Here is a link that might be useful: Max Home sofa...See MoreWill it fit through the door?
Comments (6)36" door is a piece of cake with all regular sofas provided you have good egress before and after the door. A basic door with primer as it pertains to furniture deliveries - and very general. Most furniture is designed to go through 33" - 34" doorways, so a 36" door is a luxury (if you ever want to see delivery guys break out in a big grin, have a double opening front door). At 32" things get interesting. There are certain larger sofas that won't fit, and some that have to be 'shoved' through if the customer decides thats OK, and might have get abrasion marks on leather pieces, or light soiling on fabric ones. In my delivery trucks we carry a special pad with metal bands to fit around door jambs for exactly this reason. Anything other 32" requires careful planning beforehand, and many pieces simply won't fit. You're up against the laws of physics. 29" and 30" doorways are virtually useless for sofas, but you can get recliners through them relatively easy by opening them up flat and carrying them through in an extended mode (be very gentle if you do this, as its hard on the mechanisms). Whats as important as door width is egress on each side of the door. On many doorways, we have to be able to 'hook' the sofa around the door frame. If we can't do that, it may not go in. An experienced delivery crew is your best bet. They can tell usually very quickly be eyeballing the doorways if a piece will or will not go in, plus they know the tricks in handling larger pieces to get them in the house, whereas a new crew will simply give up and put it back on the truck. There is a decision-making point on some difficult deliveries that the customer must decide upon whether they want the furniture pushed up against the jambs and walls. If you as the customer say 'yes', then expect some minor blemishes on your furniture or walls. Sometimes thats the only way to get a piece in. I've often remarked that every architect should have to work on a furniture delivery truck for at least a month before they get certified. We'd see a lot better egress into homes if that happened. -Duane Collie...See MoreNeed cheap but not too cheap sleeper sofa
Comments (3)What a shame to spend that kind of money when the couch won't get used either. We came to the same conclusion last year too. We decided not to get a sleeper sofa because even good ones don't have very comfortable beds and also because like you, we didn't really need a couch either. Instead we purchased a "high end" inflatable bed ($250) that can be stored in a closet. It is 2 1/2 feet high so it's easy to get in and out of and you can sit on the edge of it. It also has a remote control type gadget that can be used to adjust the amount of inflation for individual comfort. It's actually pretty comfortable. Anyway, it's something to think about....See MoreRelated Professionals
