I accidentally left my fridge door open all night. Is this bad?

There is hardly any food/drinks in my fridge, so it's just the fridge that I'm worried about. I think it was running all night long. It usually goes on/off every 30 minutes or so. How do I know that something is wrong with it?

So, you’ve shut the door, wait and see if it seems to be running normally. It’s probably fine, you just wasted a bit of hydro if it ran all night.

I did this with my freezer a couple of years ago. It took a few days for it to "re-regulate" itself. Every now and then it would beep as if the door was open but it wasn't. After a few days, it seemed to settle down and all was well in the world.

I think it's fine. For one thing, you don't generally open the door and leave it open for an extended length of time (except maybe unloading groceries). For another, how often do you open it fully so the entire 38" is sticking out into the aisle? Even when fully opened 90o, you will have 14"...that's enough room for someone to scoot by if they really need to. My concern would be to be sure the door hinges are on the left so you can utilize the counter b/w the cooktop & refrigerator for landing space. Actually, with your setup, a single door works better anyway. With FD refrigerators, the best landing space is in front of it, not to the side, since the doors block access to the counter on both sides.

thanks for the input guys! i had pondered the idea of moving that whole wall of cabinets to the right, but realized in doing that the stove would move. i can only move stove a couple of inches to the right (make that 2'), and still be able to fit my waist inside the corner without hip-checking the stove every time. What i really need to be able to completely open the freezer door (past the first point where the door holds it self open) as i can the refrigerator door. That requires 5 3/8'. I have 3/4' i can gain just by tightening up the 12' base cabinet closer to the stove, add another 2' by shifting all the cabinets to the right, but i'm still short 2 1/2'. These cabinets are 14 yrs old, i know i cannot get doors for them anymore, i've tried both lowe's and home desperate, so i'm thinking if i can find a carpenter to make them 9', and move everything down to the right, i might be able to hit it! I cannot modify the opening as the last poster was correct, it's a 8' tall patio door. I have an Eric to do things like that. So I woke up this morning to the back hatch of my minivan wide open. We got home from his hockey game at 10:30 last night. I asked him to be sure to put his gear in the garage (or my van would STINK the next day). Little while later I asked if he locked the van and closed the garage. He had not. So he went to the garage, pointed the key ring out the door and pushed the lock button, the closed the garage. Only he had not CLOSED the van! I went out at 8am to get my cell phone, which I left charging in the van overnight. That's when I found the van wide open! It was in the high 20's here last night, but I guess up north it would have been worse, at least it was also dry here. And my cell phone was still in my van... which a text message received at 11:30pm from my next door neighbor saying this..."The back of your van is open." Next time, skip the text message and close my van while you're out there having your cigarette! Sheesh! for DS and Sheesh! for the neighbor! I woke DS up at 8:03 and told him to go scrape the frost off the INSIDE of the van windows!

The back of the inside of the fridge is pretty moist. There is also a puddle of water on the bottom. What should I do?

Moisture from the door being open. Dry it and keep an eye on the drinks to see if they get cold again (except milk or milk products). Food you may want to toss.

All I have in my fridge atm is ketchup/mayo. It will start to fill up a bit at the start of May (I'm on disability, so I can't afford as much food as I'd like).

Then keep an eye on thee ketchup, should be ice cold within a day at the most. If not the fridge needs repair. Mayo I would toss now.

I'll just empty it then. What are the chances it will neec to be repaired? I got a staff member in my building to take a look at it, and she said it was 100% fine. It was just barely open when I discovered it. Hardly noticeable.

I'm sure it will be fine. We've done this and didn't even throw food away. Try not to worry about it.

It's probably fine, especially since it wasn't open much. This happens to everyone, probably more often than we realize.
