Should we paint the trim white or have it match the hardwood floors? It’ll be natural or a light stain.

Casing will be underneath.

I think white baseboards would look nice. The windowsills will stand out nicely if stained to go with floor.

My trim is white dove & I love it - I purchased levelor blinds through JCP 2 yrs ago and brought home samples before choosing the white (forget the name now) - It was a near perfect match. Graber swiss coffee? I'm not familiar with - but darker blinds show dust a lot! my white ones are dusty, but it doesn't show. Also, if your application is a sunroom I would highly recommend faux wood blinds - wood blinds have the propencity to warp in areas that receieve a lot of sunlight or moisture. "Are you suggesting I paint the fireplace mantel, staircase, etc a totally different color like blue or green? " Yes,as appossed to re-staining because (A) re-staining is so difficult to do a lastng job,and (B) paint offer's unlimited shades and tones to work with. Matching colors is far easier than coordinating them,stain make's it even more difficult. Frankly I'm not certain what I'd do after seeing the home in person. I suggested blue and/or green based on your discription(which I believe is accurate) of red floors and orange elsewhere. Call major paint distributors to see if they have a consultant in your area. If not,consider asking a paid consultant to have a look or taking actual samples of wall paint,floor and other woodwork to their office. Alternatly,use a camera with higher color resolution. After hearing you are already pleased with blue gray in another area I'm confident you can hit a double or triple useing it again. A color pro might turn it to a home run or grand slam. In the interest of full disclosure,this is not my field of expertise,it's just something I injoy messing around with. I may also be underestimating your eye for color and your desire to accomplish decorating without consulting decorators. I do it all the time simply because I like the satisfaction of "making it my own" rather than doing it "according to the book".

@ elsaduty no, we haven’t painted it but our plan is to paint all the trim and leave our doors stained. We have a cape cod home and feel that white trim would look the best. I am getting ready to paint a trial piece just to see whether we should spray it or paint with a brush.

The doors and knobs are dating the house. If it's in the budget, it might save you time and effort to replace the doors with a different style in a pre-painted door. Lever handles would also update the look. Then you would have to paint the trim to match. However, wood products are one of things affected by COVID shortages and price increases, so if you do decide to replace the doors, it might pay to wait a year. While gray is going out, you have an overabundance of beige which is also dating the house. So as not to break the bank maybe selectively replace some of the beige flooring? Before doing anything, try to develop an overall plan for your update. Even if you spread the work and/or expense over a couple years, an overall plan will yield a more satisfactory, cohesive result.

Either one is fine. Painting them the same color as the walls will make the walls visually taller than if you stained the trim to match the floors. Staining works better in rooms that are so tall they make pey fell small and intimidated.

White it is. KL- Thanks got explaining the reason why!! Half the first floor has like 16’ ceilings and half is only 8 ft.

We are also removing the stairs to have wood treads, white trim and risers and horizontal metal railing.

Paint them white. That nook is not a large area and it will look choppy with stained sills. Having them the same color as the wall makes that area look more expansive.

@Skylar Ghrairi you are most welcome. I am trying to explain the why in all my responses because it's so frustrating to me to post a question and get strong opinions both directions but no explanation to help me decide. Someone doesn't like my design and says it's "awful" but even after I ask why it is awful I don't get an answer. I mean, if it's "awful" shouldn't the why be pretty easy?

The other thing I try to do is focus on the original question instead of mentioning a whole bunch of things the poster isn't interested in. Twice I've posted a question about materials and got my rooms redesigned. Argh!!!!! That's why I hired an architect! Hahaha... Still... I did make minor changes on the design for one of them, and the other isn't started yet, so I might yet change my design.

I'm also trying to check spelling. 😁

I bet that is frustrating!! I haven’t run into that myself yet, but I truly love hearing feedback because I question my own art times.

I Painted a few white white yesterday and hated it, but I think it’s just because our walls are white as well. Totally we’ve always had an off white.
