Should I paint all my trim white? (Pics)
Comments (13)Hi Roobear While I like the contrast of your dark trim against your pretty paint colors I can understand your dilemma. We just remodeled our bath and office and decided to change out the stained medium oak baseboard trim to white. Here is what we did that you might want to consider: Because the stained trim is narrow and I really like the look of a wider trim, we purchased MDF 5 1/4 inch pre-primed baseboard molding from Home Depot. It is very inexpensive and only needed 2 coats of paint. Looks so good that we are going to replace the hallway and master bedroom next. It really gives the rooms a whole different look, and if you are going to go to all the work of removing the trim, sanding, priming and painting you might want to consider an inexpensive and easy option. As for the windows. I painted them too. I left them open for a couple of days after and they seemed to be ok. The key it to make sure they are really dry before shutting the window. Good luck. Your room is pretty no matter what you decide. JR...See MoreHelp. Just stained my floors dark . Should I paint my walls?
Comments (10)Lighter walls and a darker rug, and overall more color please. Right now there is no focal point in this room, and I hope you'll consider a fantastic painting over the fireplace and ditch all the small stuff on the mantel. With such a very dark floor the light rug just looks wrong. In nature you have the brown earth, then green grass and trees and then the lighter blue of the sky. Try a warm colored rug (like an Oriental, which has many colors), a glass coffee table which will show the rug instead of the weighty, chunky ottoman, off-white walls and drapes that are not much darker than the walls to open up this room. Pillows with colors taken from the rug which will tie the color scheme together, and then art on the walls in rich colors to glow against the light walls....See MoreShould I put in new stained or white baseboards and trim?
Comments (9)What quality wood type would you recommend to stain and replace the trim and baseboards if our floors are oak? If we are going with stained wood I don't want a grain that is too busy that fights with the grain in the floor. Also, what color? Should we go with a dark java colored stain to pull out the darks in the wood floor or a color that is close to the floor color?...See Moreshould we stain trim to match wood floors or paint them white?
Comments (11)@Skylar Ghrairi you are most welcome. I am trying to explain the why in all my responses because it's so frustrating to me to post a question and get strong opinions both directions but no explanation to help me decide. Someone doesn't like my design and says it's "awful" but even after I ask why it is awful I don't get an answer. I mean, if it's "awful" shouldn't the why be pretty easy? The other thing I try to do is focus on the original question instead of mentioning a whole bunch of things the poster isn't interested in. Twice I've posted a question about materials and got my rooms redesigned. Argh!!!!! That's why I hired an architect! Hahaha... Still... I did make minor changes on the design for one of them, and the other isn't started yet, so I might yet change my design. I'm also trying to check spelling. 😁 Glad you feel good about your choice!...See Morefunctionthenlook
