Not to worry, this is the normal time of year for leaf drop, accompanied by the new growth. Your description of the leaves that are falling (and about to shed), along with the new growth, sounds perfectly routine to me, and just like all of mine. Keep smiling!

Peat moss & Perlite are not what this plant needs. Peat is a KNOWN problem. Pls read further on what this plant needs before re-potting. For one, you're missing a SOIL component. Why do you want to repot this? Sorry, but I think you're in way over your head & you'll regret repotting it w/ such incomplete info. I think you're really overreacting, it doesn't look dying AT ALL in my opinion. Checking for moisture just 2 inches down doesn't tell you conditions at bottom of pot. Pls search this site for watering using a 'tell'. Pls. allow time for others to respond.

hi ken! Yes, it was definitely exposed to cold, spent 4 days in transit being delivered in 5-10 C degree weather. I'm hopeful it could recover on its own as you suggested. I tied it up because I couldn't keep an eye on it today and wanted to avoid the leaves falling down where our senior cat might try to chew on them. no chance him jumping up on the counter on his own :D When you said fert you meant fertilizer right? did you mean the fertilizer won't help it recover from the shipping stress or that the fertilizer won't stress it to this point? the seller is notified, also asked them for advice in case they have any suggestions too. cheers! patricia

I am not sure what those tiny white dots are, could be just leachings from all that moisture/water. There is always a chance that it is mold, but I can't tell. You could wipe it off with a cloth/paper towel/cotton ball just moistened in hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol, but do not make it too wet. Callusing is really drying. What you call 'closing' is just drying flesh shrinking. As I mentioned few times, more flesh there is left, longer it will take for it to dry up - callus. It is always better to have a clean cut and small (thin) scab, since there is a small chance that some of the flesh may be not dry enough. It may not be visible, because of all the 'folds' in it. No point to keep the dead leaves. Discard them, by keeping them - and putting into the soil, you are just asking for possible fungal infection. Leaves root very easy, but not the dead ones or molded ones; they should be healthy. BUT maybe I misunderstood and you were talking about planting the cuttings!!! And there is no rush in potting up the cuttings: it is better for them to be dry. Especially ones that were as water-logged as yours look in the original photo. I think there is a chance of some of the cuttings to survive, but they may not. I was not saying to pot the cuttings immediately, just describing the process. I said before that:..."I would leave them to dry as long as it takes before planting"...But it could work, and I hope it will.
