Entryway light question - am I making a mistake?

Bruce Mac
last year

Our entryway is close to 7.5 to 8ft wide and well over 15ft long with 9ft ceilings. The entry opens up into an open-concept and you can see to the other end of the house and out to the backyard from the front door.

We really like this simple semi-flush convertible drum light by Kichler.

I may take some flak for this, but I suppose the first questions is, are we crazy to think we could use this style of lighting for our entry?

Then the second question is if the 24in wide model is too wide? They make a 20in, but I'm thinking that would be too small. I've confirmed the included rods would put us at or just above the 7ft ideal from a height perspective.

We just don't want anything too ornate and want diffused downlighting.

Thanks!
