Yes, only two holes works fine for me. Each hole is about 1/2" from the cut. When I twist tie them together, the upper and lower edges overlap this 1/2" and give a bit of stability. I usually fit the top into the bottom so any moisture running down the sides will be directed into the bottom, If you use plastic covered ties or wire rust-through will not be an issue. I have a spool of self-cutting twist ties that I bought in the garden section. I am constantly picking up my jugs to move them around or check for sprouts and have never had any issues with stability. Perhaps it is my overlap? BTW - if you don't have any miniblinds to repurpose, a small one can be bought for only about $3 - $4. One blind makes approximately a bajillion markers. If you donÂt think you could use a bajillion in a lifetime a package of plastic knives from the dollar store works well also. Deb

Noisette roses rock! I was thrilled that out of the seven plants of 'Cato's Clusters' I grew from cuttings in 2004, one sported a cane that produces only white blossoms, and now 2/3rds of the plant now (in 2012)sports pure white blooms from the moment that the sepals part. Other canes have c. 50% pink blooms and the rest pure white. Nearly all Noisettes where I live are highly disease resistant in 3 local no-spray gardens. (Mac being a notable exception because she's often covered with p.m.) I also grow -Celine Forestier -Marechal Niel -Mme. Alfred Carriere -Lamarque (along with Crepescule the most resistant to p.m., here) -Le Pactole -Reve d'Or' I love that rounded bloom form, it is such a romantic bloom style. -'Nastarana' I have two of these pretty white Noisette roses flanking the entrance to my most fragrant rose garden, their scent, like R. moschata, wafts on the air filling it with Musk rose scent for a distance of several yards. Of all the Noisettes I've seen and smelled at the Vintage gardens collection and San Jose Heritage Rose garden the most strongly fragrant to me, and the one I desire most,is 'Secret Garden Noisette' which has red-pink staining on the outer edges of the petals. I ruffled a few blooms on the plant, and my hand was perfumed for several hours afterwards. 'Secret Garden Noisette' was found in the same garden as Secret Garden Climbing Musk' I think Rogue valley sells it. It is one of the roses I loose sleep over, lusting after. Luxrosa

I've recovered a bit from the week. I went out to brunch at a local bakery restaurant and walked the local farmer's market. I haven't been in a couple years. It had gotten small and depressing. I didn't need anything, wanted to go to that restaurant, so figured it was good to check it out. It was nice! Plenty of fruit/veggie vendors and a few other other things I like to see at a fm. I found a character of a plant guy. He also goes to the fm that DH has been frequenting on Sunday's. He also does some landscape consulting, yard maintenance, etc. I'll check him out at a fm again, but I may have him come give some ideas on my yard. I have a feeling he'll be closer to my take on the yard than others have been. I bought a Asclepias-curassavica (Tropical Milkweed), Peppermint Geranium and Apple Geranium. I wasn't really looking for any plants, and it's definitely hot as Hades these days. But he got me with the 'attracts Monarchs' sign on the milkweed. I've seen more monarchs and tiger swallowtail butterflies this year than ever and would love if they'd come back/stick around. I also figured it'd fill space until my Ceanothus does something (super slow growing). And the scented geraniums, I've wanted forever. I didn't seek them out specifically, but I'd been on the lookout for them, unsuccessfully, for a long time. Now I can do some better reading/commenting from upthread: Christine - it's no wonder you've got so many JM's. Between the colors, the habits, the sizes and the leaf shapes, they're all so different! Lovely. And I so want to start doing more yoga. I really liked one of the instructors at the big, mega-gym I went to for a while and kept my membership just for that/her. But her classes were only at 8pm and with my bedtime at 9...no bueno. I poke around and look at schedules for other places, and never carve out time to go check them out. I should. (more below) And not a mom, just a coaches wife and teacher watching polo. I did have a stray little tiny kid try to latch onto my hand at the farmers market today "I'm not yours! Go find your mom!" said I, as I pulled up my arm. When the kid tilted his head back enough to see me beyond his hat, he backed away and then went to his mom. annkh - absolutely jealous.
