Kitchen cabinet color help needed
Comments (5)It is not the color of the cabinets that can make a kitchen boring. Look at the pics in your idea book. Many of the kitchens have a pretty stove hood, glass doors and small areas of open shelving. Some are disappointed in their new kitchen when they do new painted cabinets, but in long bland rows, then a microwave over the range and forget to add color. Then they have a boring kitchen that looks like a black and white photo. I don't know if it is your style, but you can make a very charming kitchen in a victorian by adding some "old fashion" elements or new ones that mimic the past. I have a friend who has a new kitchen in a victorian. She has a couple of tall narrow glass cabinet doors. She does not style them, but they have her collection of depression glass and other antique dishes which she uses - not just for show. She has a beadboard ceiling in a light gray green. She has an original washboard sink - which looks great, but I have a Whitehaven apron front sink and I think it gives a similar feel, but is more practical. My friend's kitchen is white, but with touches of a pretty green so it is not dull, but a cozy and warm space. You may want to go for a more modern look - but a room full of cabinets alone does not bring style to a kitchen:)...See MoreHelp! Picking kitchen cabinet colors, need help with off-white/creams
Comments (14)Aw man, thanks for the comments guys! After being in this house with small kids for eight years, the cabinets are showing wear and there is quite a bit of water damage on many of them and some are broken (didn’t show you that photo!). So...that was where my head was at with going ahead and painting the cabinets. They are already priming today so this is a done deal! In my area, painting cabs is still a big thing (we might steer behind the times a little) and a big thing people look for in resale (we could be moving in a couple years). Honestly, it might not be trendy but I still love my granite! It hides stuff so well and never looks dirty. And I never even notice my backsplash and I just don’t care that much about it. It’s hard for me to warrant changing something just for cosmetic reasons (counter and backsplash) versus need (cabs). We got an amazing deal on the painting so I feel good about it. I’m going full steam with Antique White. After looking at it forever and being in complete decision making paralysis, that’s what I’m going with! I’m going with brass/gold knobs to add a little bit of funky and I have lots of Anthropologie-esque and plants to add character. I have a very open floor plan with my living room right there in all it’s colorful glory, so I’m thinking the lighter will look nice. I’ll be happy to post a pic when I’m done. Thanks for listening!!...See MoreKitchen cabinet color help
Comments (19)The colder Pure White white that you have chosen for the trim doesn’t play well with the warmer colors in your home. It would be better to adjust the trim to be warmer than to paint the cabinets a colder color. If you paint those cabinets to match the trim, it’s going to throw everything off and be an even bigger cold/warm clash that is currently happening with the trim. Alabaster or Greek Villa would be a good white for both trim and cabinets. But if you repaint the trim, you won’t need to paint the cabinets. Whst else are you thinking of changing? The backsplash? Counters? Walls? Lighting?...See Morekitchen cabinet color help please!
