please help. what happened to my new palisades zoysia? dfw, tx
Comments (5)I think it takes a while for zoysia to get fully established. I noticed that they wilt rather quickly if gone too long without water early on. 8 weeks isn't long enough for sure. Maybe the sprinklers are off or something. Put tuna cans everywhere and see how much water they get during your normal watering time and adjust it accordingly. Once established, they are hard to get rid off compared to bermuda and st augustine in partial shade condition like yours esp during terrible drought....See MorePlease help me diagnose what's happening with my succulent!
Comments (3)Is the soil wet? If it is (wet), pull the plant/soil out of the pot and expose it to the air. If it's /dry/ then take it to the sink and fill the pot with water and wait for it to run out the bottom. Tell us what it does, does it go around the edges and almost immediately exit the bottom holes or does it seem like it's taking it a while to exit?...See MoreWhat Happened to my Shrubs? Comments (10)Thank you all so much for your replies!! Yes I did end up IDing them (took the photo to a nursery last night) and they are most likely goldflame spireas. Also, my previous gardener (the one who moved out of the country) ended up replying to my email, and it turns out the reason why the spirea's growth was stunted last year was because our pool maintenance people (we have a pool in the backyard) drained pool water into that section of the garden bed and ended up killing a lot of the spirea roots!! So there we have it. He had actually told me this last summer, but somehow I completely ended up forgetting about it. I need to make sure the pool guys stop this draining chlorinated pool water into our garden beds immediately for this season. Anyways, he also recommended just to remove all the spireas and replant something new entirely, since most likely the roots are damaged anyways and they may never grow back to the lush fullness that they once were. I definitely will be learning more about caring for our plants :) it is a brand new journey for us since this is our first house but I am definitely interested in learning more! We hired a new gardener now but he hasn't had a chance to come in to do a through maintenance yet (we had a loonnnng winter and spring only basically just started like a few days ago lol) Thanks again for all your help :) I really appreciated your responses!...See MoreWhat happened to my young Oak tree?
Comments (26)Better late than never - thanks mntreegrower! That was the nursery's first impression as well, but nobody came down firmly on any sort of conclusions. It still looks awful but thankfully the nursery has yielded and actually honored its guarantee(!), albeit making an 'exception' for me (signs of life). I think this thread helped - I sent it to them to show I had tried everything I could think of to determine what was happening. I'm going to get this one removed and replaced, but next spring. This time, I'm not going for a large translpant (this was a 70mm, or 2 3/4" diameter tree, so a relatively big one), but a more medium sized one (I'm thinking 40mm or 1 3/5" diameter), as the sound advice here seems to be: If you absolutely can't wait the 10-15 years to grow from seed, get a small(ish) transplant. I'm also planting it next spring, probably in March/April, before it leaves out for the summer. Obviously, I'm going to go all Sherlock Holmes on it and inspect the trunk of the new tree like nobody's business for signs of borer or mildew or anything else damage, but any other tips on what I should look for/avoid based on the damage that was very likely present in this tree before I picked it out?...See Moregardengal48 (PNW Z8/9)
