Can we talk about dog beds in your decorating scheme?
Comments (76)uxorial, I have a "teeth-showing" dog too - it's normal for his breed, the Keeshond, to display a submissive grin. The breed is nicknamed the "Smiling Dutchman" because of this habit. Believe it or not some people think the dog is snarling at them because s/he is showing teeth! Sometimes when he is very happy playing with DH he'll roll over and peel his lips back so far he's showing both sets of gums, and if he's VERY excited he bares almost every tooth and "clacks" then together. :-) He's also another one who would happily sleep in a snowbank if we let him. If it's snowing we have to rattle the treat box to get him into the house! In our last house we had one of those beige fake-sheepskin bolster-beds in the corner of the living room for Goku-pup, and a crate in the bedroom (he took well to crate training). He responds to placement cues too, so "go crate" or "go bed" gets the appropriate response. The fleece thing looks so terrible in this house that I haven't put it out, although the crate fits nicely in the mudroom. The "giant pillow" kind of beds just don't do it for me at all. I've been thinking about one of the types that looks like a miniature couch but not sure if I can justify the price; Target has some kids' couches that might actually fit the bill, for much cheaper. Random-kitty preferred cardboard boxes for sleeping in, although shortly before she left us for the Bridge I finally convinced her to sleep in a cat bed. She was also welcome to sleep on whatever furniture she wanted to - she was family, after all....See Morehelp ... trying to decorate study with stuff I have, or...
Comments (40)"Looks like you did it without spending anything too." Bingo! The only thing we bought was the fireplace screen, about $35 at Lowes. [sidenote: how impossible is it to find these thing in stores these days! catalog only, almost. Home Depot doesn't even carry them anymore. I didn't like the ones at Target. I never made it to a fireplace shop, but I didn't want a nice (ie expensive) one anyway. ] Oh, and the tree, but we would have bought one anyway. The good thing is that we have a 9-month-old puppy who will eat the tree and everything on it if given the chance, so being able to shut the French doors is necessary -- but we can still see the tree. The rest of the house is much less decorated (due to dog), but at least we have a riot of crap in one room! ;-)...See MoreBedroom accent wall
Comments (10)My living space is Glidden's "Universal Grey" -- a really pretty neutral light grey, with "Royal Navy". It's hard to see, but this shows both colors side by side (right corner) I also have a marble mural in my dining room that pulls in the navy, and adds a bit of white, grey, and a rusty orange/brown, if you're looking for something bold! It was super easy to install, and completely changes the look of the room--you can buy it here. Hope this helps!...See MoreHelp me fix my sister's hidious decorating choices
Comments (23)I've had clients who went out in the middle of a BIG project and bought furniture that was beyond hideous - it was a monstrosity. I could have cried - all the work I put into this MBR and then they bought this enormous bed with built in headboard/bookcases/lights - heck there might have even been a refrigerator in it - it was bigger than some efficiency apartments. They could not wait for me to see this purchase, of which they were SO proud. I responded the same way I do when a really ugly baby is presented to me and said, "Well, that's quite a bed!" (I always say "What a baby!"). After the installation of what we were doing was complete, I bowed out - WAY too busy to help them with more decorating - always WAY too busy for the next 2 years. They finally quit calling and I was greatly relieved....See MoreFun2BHere
