Appliance puzzle - which old ones to use and which to replace
Comments (2)Are you doing a total renovation? If so, the decision about whether to go with a 48" range (or any stand-alone range) or separate cooktop + wall ovens is a fundamental one which will impact the entire cabinet design, and must be decided very early in the process. If you have the desire, space, and budget for a 48 incher, I'd insist upon it, as one cannot be easily retrofitted into any kitchen when/if the existing cooktop dies. It's perfectly OK to economize by re-using a fridge and dishwasher, as the holes they occupy are standard and new ones can be easily popped in when the old ones die. But cooktops are different. There are no standards for shape/size between brands so matching a new one to an existing cut-out in your counter tops can really limit your choices down the road. Can you get Hubs to buy into these arguments?...See Moreopening puzzles from puzzles-unlimited yahoo group
Comments (2)I tried Mikie's advice and it didn't work. I also tried adding yahoo to my trusted sites and even turned off the Internet Protected Mode off. I not only like to download puzzles but read ebooks and I could open 3 new ebks but could not download them to save them. I've never had trouble before so I'm really stumped. Comments (15)I downloaded your pic and opened it in Paint (actually that's what I did the first time I helped with a layout--now I just copy the pic/drawing and paste it into a Paint shortcut I keep on my desktop). It's easy to use the 'select' function to capture and move boxes. The boxes I drew are estimated to be the correct size. So, only one DW in the kitchen is good news--I misunderstood your post on the other thread, about adding a second DW to the main kitchen. You can easily put the trash/recycle base to the right of the sink, in the main prep area. Are the trash and recycle bins attached to the doors, to swing out with them? If so, I would retrofit pull-outs, and attach the doors to the slider guides, which would make it much easier to use the pull-out from the sink side. If the main prep space will be on the island, I'd leave the trash there, and put the 47.5" base to the right of the clean-up sink. If you put a 12" cabinet in each corner with 3" filler, you'll have symmetry within .5" on the sink wall. If you use a cabinet with only a full height door (no top drawer), you might be able to omit the filler, and increase the new 12" cabinets to 15". Drawers and/or pull-outs would definitely need filler to open past the hardware or oven door handle on the perpendicular runs. Since your sink base is 45", have you considered the Kohler Stages 45, or a similar sink? At any rate I'd use at least a 33" sink (which I have, and love--it hides lots of dirty dishes). 36" seems to be a popular size, too. I forgot to mention in the previous posts that I made the island less deep, and increased the width of the work aisle. The island is 42" deep, which includes the standard 24" deep bases, cover panel, 16" seating overhang, and front counter overhang. Also, the pull-out I put on the end of the island could instead be a bookcase for cookbooks....See MoreUsing Smart Panel (Span) to Avoid Main Panel Upgrade?
Comments (9)It's not how much you're drawing from the grid but how much you are drawing in total. This assuming that you load balance (grid + solar) before your panel which is typical. (The other option would be to have one panel for grid connected circuits and one for solar connected circuits but I'd recommend against that.) Also, there are still likely to be cases where you will be 100% grid unless you are OK with not having some electrical things available when solar+battery is not available. So, I think you will likely still need a panel capable of handling the entire electrical load of your house in order to meet code. I believe Span uses standard dumb breakers and just has their electronics behind it. A significant problem w/ new electrical panels is AFCI nusiance trips (think having to reset a breaker once per week or day). Some panels such as Square D's new stuff are doing a much better job than others such as Eaton or Siemens so something to think about....See Moregeezerfolks_SharonG_FL
