Kitchen Related Wedding Gift Baking Question
Comments (38)LOL!!!! KD, I think the guys I'm thinking of were using their mixers for thinks like waffle batter (I just use a whisk for that), cupcakes (good Daddy), and stiff peaked eggwhites for baked omelettes. That would be an interesting thread, though. ... What's the weirdest thing you ever made in your mixer? :) Kaysd said it well--the memorable big ticket item is it exactly. Especially nowadays when they give couples the scanner gun and they pick things like spatulas, they may get a lot of matched things and stuff they need, but a couple of young recent brides I know have felt kind of let down by a lot of their gifts. Not unappreciative, but just kind of flat. They were all things off the registry, in the store's standard wrapping. No surprises, not many Wow gifts. Generous ones were more of the box full of stuff variety than the single memorable big ticket one. No clever gifties at the shower. Not many really special things for the wedding. It's all very efficient, but there aren't the warm memories. When I was in college and couldn't afford an expensive shower gift, I got some utensils and a box grater at the dime store and wired them together to make a robot. For a wedding, I'd give what I called the "crystal gift certificate". That's a small crystal (or silver, or whatever) serving piece that fit my budget, which could be easily exchanged. They never were exchanged, however. Sometimes, that was the only "fine" piece the couple got and they loved to have it. I can afford to give lovely presents now, but I try to put as much thought and effort into them as I did when I had to be clever. That's what people love and remember. It's not really about the stuff. It's about helping the new couple create a home and giving them lasting things that will bring lovely memories to them over the years as they use them....See Morewedding gift - cake cover for a young couple
Comments (21)Thanks everyone! I HOPE they like the gift....BAMA: Work under pressure? Me? It is SO bad for you--makes me want to eat ANYTHING and EVERYTHING! SHRTY: I started a counted cross stitch sampler for my one and only niece just after she was born--she's about 9 now and I haven't finished it. Am I EMBARRASSED?! I think I'll give it to her for her 16th! So, don't procrastinate like me and get busy woman! CALAM: Yes, the metal flowers are from Mexico--painted my special way. Those do-hickies are called milagros and I haven't done anything with mine yet. I musta bought a hundred! You know I have that CD but have yet to look at it. BAD Pat! CINDYLW: The kitties did keep me occupied (I can see how old ladies leave all their money to animal charities--our local shelter was broken into and some of the animals hurt and stuff stolen--the radio station was collecting at the local SONICS yesterday--I gave them a BUNCH of moolah because I was heartbroken! BUT I kept positive thoughts about the kittens we had to place there.) and we just took our inside cat Buddy and outside mama cat LADBYBUG to board at the vets while we're in Ga for the wedding. Just call me "softie". CRACKPOT: I put a photo of the columns just after the grouted cake cover in my album. That paint is still going strong. I was sorta thinking I might need some closer to the house by the front door--don't know how that would fly w/dh. The grout on the cake cover is a tad light--I might paint wash it darker. We'll see. Comments (37)I am so glad, Sue, I know everyone will enjoy it! Funny you mention the cost. When I first embarked on this, I was thinking it will be a big impact present where the gift is our time not the cost. Yikes, even with the 50% off, each book was $200 OMG. I didn't really expect that, but after all the work putting it together, I wasn't going to go back and trim. I may regret making them so large, 11x14, but I know i usually like photos to be bigger. I also fell for that very pricey for that "lay flat" upgrade that allow you to do those "centerfold" shots. Heck, i actually fell for every type of upgrade they offered, including a storage box. And then I have the engraved USBs and those boxes. But oh they will be so pretty. I actually went with this one because I liked the idea of putting a photo with it. They also have them in navy, grey, and Tiffany blue. I was upset that I had to switch my product to Shutterfly, but I have to give them a big shout out. They have added so many features to their books, and so many options for designing them. Plus, they still had my photos on there from 2005, though I had not done business w them in years. In some cases, they were photos i did not find anywhere else in my files. Whew. One of the best parts of making the book was doing the captions, and adding in things like scans of their footprints, their baby announcements, etc. I also commissioned DH to write a letter to each of them talking about the day they were born and their first few years. He did a wonderful job, brought tears to my eyes and made me laugh, too. We finished yesterday. Finally. Annie - love that tree! we do have a few photo ornaments, but a whole tree! Fab Running - Even from book 1 to book 3 i got better at it and fancier. There are soooooo many options and embellishments and features. And if you have the right dates on your photos, the autofill feature is a great start. Enjoy!...See MoreProject Linus #10 complete
Comments (23)I'm half done with my 6th blanket (Project Linus) plus random baby hats for local hospital and scarves for women's abuse shelter. My stash may not go down for awhile - a friend and I visited some AC Moore stores in the waning days of their closing sale and came away with many bags of yarn for minimal prices....See MoreRusty
