A question about lamps for those of you who read in bed . . . .
Comments (11)No pictures because I haven't found the lamps I really want at a price I can live with yet... But I do know what my requirements are. Most lamps are really designed for decoration, not reading. The fabric type shades block a lot of light with darker fabric being worse than lighter fabrics. At a minimum you need 100 watt bulb, but 150 is better. My night stand is too small for a desk lamp so I need a floor lamp; I need the space for my book of the moment. The lamp needs to be adjustable height so I get just the right lighting. A pivot arm is good for the same purpose. If your bedroom is modern/transitional you should have no problem as there are lots of options. My bedroom is traditional and I have a modern/functional lamp for reading: it's almost 'Gumby' in number of ways I can adjust it. It's not a bad looking lamp, it just belongs in another space. But as I'm more concerned with reading than taking tours through my bedroom, it works for now. I included a link to a similar lamp to mine, but mine is much more powerful in light output. The adjustable design is perfect for reading lamps though with the light going onto your book, not the ceiling. Here is a link that might be useful: Adjustable lamp...See Morelight sources for reading in bed: a poll
Comments (30)I sleep alone (except for a dog and a cat!), and I have a lamp next to my bedside on the nightstand. What I don't like about it is that I really have to reach up to turn it off when I am really sleepy. What I do like about the lamp is that it's tall enough to shed light onto the book. But I can't get it any closer to the bed without replacing my clock, which I like to have facing the bed. I'd like to hear more about those remote switches. I bought my matching lamps from PB years ago, and I love them. They are a tall wood base, with an antique white finish. The lampshades are handmade paper with pressed wispy ferns on them. They give a nice soft glow to the room, which is a warm yellow. I would really love sconces; but it would be a big expense and would require some extensive electrical work in my 60 year old house....See MoreNeed Help with setting up a Teen Room-2 full beds and 2 nightstands
Comments (9)You clearly said "2 full beds" and my comments were based on that. The living arrangement you described should work well with my idea. The girls will each have a side of the closet for their items when they're with you, and you'll have the big closet plus the one in your room. Not sure which of the illustrated parts of the slider is the moving one. If it is the center one, then you could leave that exposed, drape or make a canopy over each bed located at the sides of that access door with the nightstands on the outside left and right of the bed arrangement. My parents had 2 full beds in their bedroom and it can work very well. This with the slider door between the beds. Picture this with the closets on the right and the slider door between the two draped beds. The bed canopy idea done with a simple cornice and panels. Solid drapes behind the beds could pull closed over all the exposed sliders at night....See MoreHow to light the center of the room if the walls are far from lamps?
