Need help w/ teen boy room....Camo theme
Comments (14)Hi becca, I too am one who hates hunting camo. That being said, I come from a family of men who love to hunt. We also bleed purple and gold (LSU) so I combined the two feels to give him a true Louisiana boys room with a gentleman's touch while not being trendy. Again not sure if your talking Mossy Oak or Desert Storm, but this what I did in my son's room in our old home. I painted the room BM Woodstock Tan (a deep sort of brown). I bought a duvet and had a cover made from an army green colored cordouroy (sp) with wooden buttons for the enclosure (also had a sham made). I used RL leopard sheets on the bed with the Mossy Oak camo panels on the windows. What I didn't account for when making the duvet cover was the weight of the cordouroy (it is really heavy) nice in the winter, but I take it off in the summer and just use the white duvet. It lightens things up a bit (can get dirty if not careful). Also, I swap out the camo panels in the summer for white ones as well. The other camo accent that I had in that room was a portrait of him in camo with his gun from my father sitting on an old shotgun shell box. His furniture is different from that you will have as his is all antique from my grandmother's, but I am sure this can be retrofitted to match your furniture. The great thing about these colors is that they are pretty neutral so accent colors stand out well. Like the purple and gold LSU newsprints that I have matted in purple in his room and other LSU paraphanalia. Red also looks good against these colors. All of these colors and patterns may sound a bit busy, but used properly they compliment each other really well. We have since moved from this home, but I continue to use variations of this since it is something that works well with all ages and can grow with them. Hope this helps, I will try to find and attach a picture if I can. Shannon...See MoreNeed Help with Living Room set up
Comments (15)wow that view! I would: -move the shelving that's near the buddhist object to the tv/window corner and get media cabinet like beth h picked. They're both similiarly sized and I feel like it's odd right next to one another. - nix the stuff under the window- that's an awesome view!! it looks like you have some wire shelving and a pet crate? right now and neither of those are that nice. - push your couch away from the wall. Stick art on the wall behind the couch and some art in the left hand space next to the window. with the couch more under the window and the pet crate near the door (where the little shelves are) the view and the comfy couch are the focus, basically my thinking is that you have too many small shelving unit things and by consolidating or getting rid of some of them, that would easily make your space look more intentional....See MoreNeed help with living room set up and decor!
Comments (10)Beautiful home and great seating classic modern seating pieces, which gives you a good start! Below is a plan which might work for you, as CDR Design above has indicated. All of the dimensions are approximate. If you would like to add dimensions and send back, I would be happy to revise the plan. This layout will give you a better flow and tighten up the zones. By relocating the tv and anchoring the main seating area with the new rug, it will delineate the function as lounging and tv watching. When you had the tv on the stair wall, the elevation of that wall is confusing and distracting with the entrance, stair, tv, hall to powder room. There was no place for your eyes to rest. You want your home to be inviting and relaxing. To add much needed front entrance storage, Ikea has simple tall storage cabinets. See link below. It can stay at the front door where you originally had your stand, but will be a closed cabinet. Relocate your wedding pic to the stair wall and put a narrow bench below. A beautiful bright color or print fabric would look key. The back area is the perfect place for a kid zone and the large lounge chair. Place a window seat under the window that will accommodate a toy chest under the seat and lots of pillows. Add bookcases on either side of the lounge chair, a small table with kids chairs for games, That little corner on the left is perfect for a kids tent. All the window treatments should be simple solid color (I like white or cream) curtain panels ceiling to floor, and full: at least 2x the width of the window and gathered tightly. TV Wall with art, mini shelves, and cabinet below TV Wall with white cabinet below and fireplace module next to tv TV Wall with horizontal wood detail and console below between your two windows Ikea Cabinet at front door Oval ottoman and various end tables Simple Curtain Panels - ceiling to floor Window seat at back window Kids tent kids tent - so cute...See MoreDo we need 2 full baths or is 1 full and 1 half bath sufficient?
Comments (13)We have a 2/1 that will very soon officially be a 2/2, and we considered just adding a half bath, which would have been a much simpler project. But in the end, it seemed the added value for the full bath (both for our family and for future owners or renters) was more than worth it. We are a family of four, and the single bathroom is definitely the most limiting aspect of a small house. That said, if you're sure you wouldn't have more than two people likely to live there, it may not be as big an issue. We are in a high-cost urban area where many families live in 2BR homes and a third bedroom is a (pricey!) luxury, but the equation would be quite different in a place where 4BR+ homes were common and affordable and a 3BR would not be likely to draw families. It also depends on what your costs will be and what rents are like in your area--our added bathroom was on a very lean budget with a lot of our own time, so we have already added more value to the home than we spent on the project, and would make it back in rent quite quickly if we needed to rent out the house. But in other areas with softer markets, that might not be the case. Half our budget was materials, which are presumably pretty comparably priced nationally in the age of internet sales. The other half was labor, which is going to be a lot more variable....See MoreJacki Betz
