Thank you for your thoughts on the chairs so far. Here is an update: First off, I should confirm that I am from the UK... so I'm guessing that these chairs are too. Secondly, my best guess is that they come from a place in England called "High Wycombe" and were made by William Bartlett and his company. Why do I think this? On closer examination I noticed that every chair has similar marking on its underside, including the image of an archer and the name 'strongbow' (see image below). All four chairs also have the phrase "REGD" stamped on them (the 'D'is superscripted) and two chairs also have numbers stamped on them (519950) and stamped initials 'WJE'. Googling Strongbow and furniture I came across the name William Bartlett. Indeed a search to one site revealed a logo which seemed to be of a very similar shape and stance to the stamp on the chair Web link 1. Also, a search on google maps suggest that the old premises of the company on Grafton Street in High Wycombe also displayed a similar logo Web link 2. A little more searching turned up a document from the High Wycombe council website which suggested that the 'Strongbow range dates at least to 1965 Web link 3. Now, if this is the case then I assume the chairs are reproductions in an arts a craft style and are not original pieces. Anyway. What do you all think? Does this sound plausible to you? Hi Lindac, The vase has no markings on the bottom (or anywhere else). It's 7" tall and 4" across at its widest point. The texture of the vertical gold bands is very rough...as though there wre thousands of small "grains" of something about the size of kosher salt. I carried a photo with me on vacation one time and asked an antique dealer in Indiana at and she just said it was an "art piece" from the 1930s or 40s. That makes sense, since Mom had a number of items from that time period....McCoy, etc. I've looked on Ebay to see if I can find something to compare it with, but haven't had any luck. Same color, same room, opposite walls. What a difference! Now, I DO like both of these incarnations of Butter. And they look to me like the Rejuvenation and Lowe's photos linked above. But darn that butter! It also gets lemony in my kitchen--both in bright sunlight, and if I use cf bulbs. (I don't have a photo of the butter-turned-lemon for you.) I need a never-lemony butter. Maybe I just need to board up all the windows in my home, and control the yellow with artificial, unchanging lighting? ;-)

My3dogs, thanks for the link. I did a google image search on famille jardinere and lots of the pictured somewhat resembled the style of my pot. None were the same shape though, so I'm likely wrong calling it a jardinere. I'm going to use "famille" as a starting point for my searches; thanks for that info. Bronwynsmom, I hadn't even thought about it being an attempt at forgery, but now that you mention it, I know I've heard discussion of that on Antiques Roadshow and other places. I've just never had any idea if it was just cheap tourist crap or something of quality. I live just outside of DC, so I ought to be able to find an antique store that specializes in Asian antiques. Maybe someone would be willing to take a look and give me their thoughts. oakleyoak, I just tried to get a better picture of the mark on the bottom. It's pretty faint and just composed of asian symbols. I appreciate you looking in your book for me. So far, not a peep from the antiques forum.
