Light emitting diodes (LED) are a type of semiconductor, similar to transistors and diodes. They operate on direct current, typically around 2 volts. LED's are more efficient than incandescent light bulbs, and have similar energy efficiency when compared to fluorescent lamps. Since LED's operate on direct current, they are well adapted for use in battery powered portable flashlights. To my knowledge, LED's are not cost effective when compared to compact fluorescents for interior lighting. I'm not sure that white LED's will ever be cheaper or more energy efficient than fluorescent lamps. I am not aware of any underlying physical reason that would make white LED's use less energy per unit of light output. If you have a source of dc current, then it might make sense to light your interior with white LED's, and avoid converting your power to alternating current, a necessary step for fluorescent lighting in this instance. If you are using alternating current off the grid, then there is no advantage to using white LED's for interior lighting at this time in history.

This is the right side...in looking more closely, I think you are correct that it's one piece. The "line" that you see is actually a crack...there's one on the other side, also. However, if you run your hand along the top of the side, it's smooth-no seams. Is that what you meant by "solid"? This is the left side...the crack is more pronounced. The crack on the left side actually goes into the top somewhat. See how it's sort of a diagonal crack? If that was a paneled side, it would be straight, right? The top pine chest...hard to get a nice clear picture of whole top... And the back Definitely curious about the dark color. Linda-you also suggested having new knobs made. Who does that...what would I look up? By the way, I wouldn't change the knobs...I love them. Can I add something new? As I was taking these pic's, remembered another bargain chair...about $10 in a resale shop. My first chair had a laminated seat, but I'm not sure about this one...could be just one piece. They are bonsai pots, that's for sure. As to maker I don't know. They do look high quality, having a flat bottom(no pockets for water to sit), two drainage holes, and quality feet. They will do there part to drain water away and will be good for cactus. The soil you choose will be critical, and too many commercial cactus soils have too much water retentive fine peat. You might do well to mound up the soil so that the base of your cactus is about an inch above the rim of the pot. ez

I'd say Edwardian ish. 1900-1910 roughly. The Edwardians were trying to shed the over elaborate turnings and high style of the Victorian era and went for squarer geometrical designs which led to the Art Deco period. Here is a typical Edwardian upholstered armchair of the period with the square tapered front legs as with yours.
