Ideas needed-I have a gap above new counter depth fridge
Comments (9)Unless you are going to be living with this kitchen another 10 years and will be selling it at a 100K discount as a gut reno, the correct solution IS to replace like with like. You don't usually see SubZeros in suburban tract homes, so unless that was the case and the PO was a bit eccentric in that way, your kitchen is best served by having the level of appliances replaced with the level that is already installed. Anything less, and yes, you are downgrading the kitchen and that's a road you don't want to start going down if you want to keep up the value of your home. Even with the real estate market trending downward, there's always further down to go if a buyer feels that the home may not have been "kept up". A non built in in a built in's hole gives them more opportunity to think this was the case....See Morewasher and dryer with stove in between in kitchen - ideas?
Comments (13)Hi All, Well, I've already purchased standard sized washer & dryer, so buying new under counter is out and the ceiling is too low to put a stacked unit. I love the idea of covering just the eyes of the washer & dryer with something. I have seen an oeulle de boeuf (round window) that had a wire circle with stretched fabric over it that might work - something to clip or hang inside the circles of the w&d eyes that would be easy to take off to use the appliances. I think a taught something over wire that hangs inside the circles wouldn't be too flammable, and certainly not as flammable as a curtain. Plain white contact paper wouldn't last long on the dryer. Except in winter I usually cook outside anyway - have a covered porch right outside the kitchen. Am going to a craft show this weekend and will look around for ideas. Paintings or photos of sleeping sheep's eyes? As far as counter space goes, am going to put the w&d next to each other and place a very large butcher block over both. That would match the wood counters. (Or rather the counters that are some day going to be wood..ha ha...these things always take way more time than anticipated. Normally I chop on a separate cutting board at the kitchen table since the table is the right height for me, so the height of the w&d won't bother me. Thanks everyone for your comments. I'll post photos when the kitchen is put together. Cheers, Northface...See MoreHas anyone ever left a gap between kitchen cabinets to use for storage
Comments (24)Both Rev-a-shelf and Slide Out Shelves offer pullout fillers that will fit a 4" gap, so it doesn't have to be an open cubby if you don't want it to be. But do measure carefully to be sure that the gap really will be 4", which I think will make the actual available storage more like 3" (double check with the designer), and that the stepstool will also fit height-wise with the mechanism in place. I have seen open cubbies that are nicely finished on some kitchen reveals here, also, used for towels, sheet pans, even paper towel holders - the first and last with pullout hangers for them....See MoreKitchen Cabinets next to range hood and gap between ceiling and 42"
Comments (28)I’m trying. Unfortunately, i signed off on it. Lesson learned. We‘re adding cabinets next to the fridge to give it room to open and pushing the others down. I’m not sure I prefer a small counter area for a coffee pot or the long cabinets more, but it should help with the fridge issue. They added the fascia and crown to the top of the ceiling as well. After I pointed things out, it seems like they’re wanting to fix as much as they can on the plan. Not wanting to budge on the Dishwasher issue so far because of the plumbing already being done though. Maybe I can change the island without altering the plumbing lines? Going to keep pushing....See Morebarndwellers
