5" Hardwood Planks vs. Engineered Flooring?
Comments (13)There is a lot of controversy right now about the glues in engineered flooring making people sick. That being said...I just don't like it, you can always tell it's engineered and just looks cheap to me. With hardwood, you can sand it down if it gets damaged, with engineered, you can't.If it is anywhere near water pipes, you have to look into the future, a leak, or flood will ruin engineered..hardwood will dry out. Hardwood won't cup if it's been dried properly. Cupping is from wet wood (not dried down to 8% or less moisture)being laid down, then trying to dry, and having nowhere to go because it's been nailed down. It then cups....See MoreHelp! High Plains or Next Generation engineered hardwood flooring?
Comments (0)I have to pick new flooring this week and need advice, please. The flooring installer dropped off two sample boards - High Plains Aqualock and Next Generation Future Core. I can't find any information about these brand online. I am looking for photos and user reviews. Do you have experience with either? I am replacing all of the flooring except for the bathrooms in a 2 story house that had extensive flooding damage. I am looking for a medium grade waterproof floor (these are 8 mil) in a neutral brown color that won't go out of style. Thanks in advance for your help!...See Moreengineered hardwood choices for pine furniture
Comments (14)I personally would work with an area rug underneath the pine table so I would choose the colour that I want to look at THE MOST. Area rugs are excellent at 'hiding' a colour clash or 'separating' two items that are so close in colour that they blend into each other. If you are NOT using an area rug then I suggest you pick the colour that has the most YELLOW in it. Pine is yellow. I loves being yellow and people love to put finishes on pine that turn yellow/orange over time (ambering). The 'white wash' samples will turn pinky-salmon over a large area. Yellow clashes badly with salmon/pink. The darker sample could work...but it is in shadow in the pic so it is impossible to say whether or not it has any undertones that work with your table. The third sample...the medium yellow one is the one that will have the least amount of clash. If you do not want an area rug, then this is the one I would pick to work with your table. In fact it could be so close in colour that your table 'disappears' on the floor. If it does, then an area rug will fix it....See MoreEngineered Hardwood vs Luxury Vinyl Planks with dogs
Comments (58)Thought I would also update this thread since it popped back up. We moved into our new build 2 months ago and ended up choosing engineered wood for most of the house, except the mudroom, laundry room and their connecting long back hallway, which got tile. I can close this area off and the dogs stay here if we are gone for several hours. Their food and water is also kept in the laundry room. The floors are Duchateau - Riverstone collection - Sava color. So far they have not shown any scratches from the dogs making the crazy run to the front door when they hear the doorbell and/or fedex! The floors have a rustic look and slight texture that will make it easier to hide any scratches and dents....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
