Shell extensions are anything extra added to the Shell :) I think of them as sort of like an extension cord you plug into the wall then plug the automatic egg beater from the kitchen counter into, when you need to mix up some paint, so you don't make a mess on the counter and get in trouble. Kind of like some programs add their easy way access to the right click menu... add on stuff.

I'd vote for option 1 or 2, with at least 300 total combined wattage lights, and a dimmer switch so that you can adjust total light output based on the seated area. That's what I've done in a similar situation and it's worked well.

I had questioned nailing the windows directly on the foam myself, and I have seen "1 by 4s" used to nail windows to. I have talked to my friend who is acting as general contractor and helping me with the project, and he recommends only using 3/4" foam to leave plenty of room behind the brick. He always uses 7/16" OSB, don't know why. Is 1/2" better or more standard? If I use a regular "1 by 4" to mount the window to, is that 3/4" thick, and would be flush with 3/4" foam? So, basically figure the thickness of the wall and add 1/16"? That would be 5 1/4" with 3/4" foam and 7/16" OSB, or 5 5/16" if I use 1/2" OSB with 5/4 board to mount the window to. The only thing bad about the extra board is that this entire perimeter around the window is uninsulated (except for the very low R value of lumber). I wanted the foam for a thermal break between the exterior and not only the studs but also the framing members (bucks?) around the windows. One more question: Why should the jambs stick out 1/16" on the inside? Looks to me like the trim won't be flush with the wall if its sticking out. Thanks for this good information.

I use 100' of #14 with mine - OK, several feet less than that (see last paragraph below ;-) - but one of these days I'm going to swap it for #12. I think the voltage drop makes the motor labor at times. The reason I'm still using the #14 is that I want to find a 2-conductor #12 cable, and they're scarce. I may have to make one up. Been using electric mowers for over 10 years now. In addition to above advantages, corded electric mowers weigh a lot less than gas mowers. Very easy to use. No exhaust stench and I no longer wear hearing protectors when I mow. Rechargeable mowers might be more convenient, but you lose the weight advantage, they're less powerful, and you have to replace the battery every few seasons. Just don't mow after dusk. Every time I've run over the cord, it's been when I was trying to finish in failing light.
