My understanding is that 2 things generally speed up the outgassing from materials: increased heat and increased humidity. The humidity is too hard to control and brings other problems with it, such as mold growth. So, that leaves increased heat. Sunlight combined with heat has always worked best for me, so I drag everything into the sun or near big windows with sun coming in. Increase your ventilation at the same time or you just add to the pollutant load in your house. Odor comes from the volatile organic compounds in the foam, which are likely a health hazard, so bear that in mind. It's much more than just an unpleasant smell.

Greetings, I purchased the Ara King Memory Foam Mattress from Costco about 6 weeks ago and have been sleeping on it for about 4 weeks. It took a two to three night adjustment period, but I can honestly say it is the best mattress I have ever used since I started sleeping indoors over 50 years ago. I am disabled due to a couple forms of arthritus in the spine, hips, legs etc..., and have come to greatly appreciate a few good hours of sound sleep at night. I started being able to sleep 5 to 6 hours a night a few weeks ago and LOVE this mattress. It supports right out to the very edge of the mattress. I have used a Nova-foam system before, but this one feels different and better. It also comes with a 20 year warranty if you are concerned about it giving up on support in the future. My partner/girlfriend has a very expensive Tempurpedic sleep system which I rated #1 until I got this Ara mattress. Only problem now is that I need to get a decent headboard since my old bed was a queen size and I don't want to buy a complete bed set again. Any suggestions???

Well, I'd be more worried about finding a replacement I love than getting rid of one I didn't, lol. I did buy a really nice mail order pure natural organic latex mattress that is really comfy. Firm on one side and a bit softer on the other, but neither is really soft like a memory foam or gel one is. Let me see if I can figure out the brand and will let you know. The first one they sent was an undersized queen and they promptly replaced it. The second one is better but they are not generous in their measurements. It's in a guest room and everyone seems to like it. I'll come back and post the name when I find it. eta: that was easy, it is Zenhaven. They have the Zenhaven and the Saatva hybrid; I got the Zenhaven. It is flippable, so should last almost a lifetime. The last pure latex mattress I had lasted 40 years, lol. Zenhaven

Emma, I don't know where you get your info, but as a firefighter I can tell, they are not "explosive". They can smolder and emit fumes which are hazardous but they aren't like a propane tank which because of the flammable gas being trapped could explode on non vented bottles. Another Urban Myth. The heat required to ignite a mattress would be higher than a properly working mattress or heating pad would get. The reason the mfg say not to use them is due to the foam is supposed to form to your body based on your body temp. A heating device would make the mattress softer and would be contraindicated to the whole point of using a foam mattress.
