I say it wasn't the horse hair you were allergic to but rather the dust and other crud in the pad. Without pictures of the sofa it's hard to tell if it's really a veryf ine old sofa or a repro. But I think it's very likely that it's a good old piece. It's probably horse hide or cow hide and probably has been rubbed for years with saddle soap....which darkens the leather but also is said to preserve it. all stuffing compresses over time....even horse hair. If that doesn't bother you...it's fine, If it bothers you someone might be able to loosen the leather and put more stuffing in it....but then it wouldn't look like a great old sofa, would it? As for the feet....that was the way a sofa like that would be made....much easier than trying to wrap the leather around the legs. I say, if you love it....go for it!!! You'll never find another! I thank you all for your inputs. I think I am the only person in real-life (not online) who understands the beauty of the H&M Chesterfield. My DH and friends supported lindac's observation that the Chesterfield does not look like a lounging type of sofa. Yes, I agree, but I love it!!! So I've been out-voted. We are getting some generic leather sofa. Let's see how long this thing lasts... Someday...someday, my love (Chesterfield)... Again, thank you. Amanda

I find the chairs are a bit heavy/dated compared to your other choices and thought you might like these two, as an example. They feel more modern and the first is a recliner 😀 Instead of navy, cream would be very complimentary but you may worry about keeping clean so could look for slipcovered chairs with an ottoman instead of a recliner, opening up more options I’d stick to a solid fabric on chairs and for interest, add lots of cushions and you won’t be limited trying to compliment a patterned fabric. For sure white linen-like drapes and IKea has nice ones at good prices. Thought the room below (imagine seating color in reverse) may help you with envisioning your room - white walls and curtains, accent cushions that compliment rug. May feel very similar based on what you provided. I think it’s a lovely room

The beauty of the USA is the democracy in goods available and in pricing for those goods. Matters not if it is a bath towel! You can find one for a 1.99 or you can pay 50.00 bucks. But the point is you probably need not go WITHOUT a bath towel!..........and in many countries you'd do exactly that. So it is with a sofa. Nobody is saying you can't have one for 2k or less. You certainly can! Just don't apply the EXPECTATIONS that would go to one three times that price. That is ALL any one of us is saying. JEEEEESH.
