Help with outdoor lighting fixture finish

I found some outdoor lights we like. Problem is that our house (being built) will be Hardie evening blue with black metal accent roof (and moire black for most of the roof), black trim windows. We found fixtures we like (super affordable) we saw but they are oil rubbed bronze, vs black. We are thinking we need black due to the black prominence in the roof and windows. Can we get away with the oil rubbed bronze in this case?

Based upon the information provided, I think you can we get away with the oil rubbed bronze. "Super affordable" carries a lot of weight.

Evening Blue and black are quite dark, so I would choose something that would contrast for the lighting. A cool metal in silver tones might look nice--brushed or galvanized steel, pewter or nickel. I think black or ORB would disappear into a dark blue background.

My first response got hung up and never posted:( We revamped our front porch light fixture for a nominal amount of money. It was a big fixture and would have cost a few hundred to replace. We took it down. It had six panes of AMBER glass....yuk, which I replaced. Went to a local glass shop and bought leftover crackle glass for $30 which they cut to the exact size of the old glass. Then bought 2 cans of Rustoleum hammered black spray paint at HD for $13. It looks like a totally new fixture. It was not hard to do. We hung the fixture in the middle of our 8 ft ladder so we could spray paint all sides at once. Luckily we were having some work done on the porch ceiling so the workers removed and reinstalled the fixture. I will try to post a pic if I can get photobucket to work.

If your husband doesn't like the look of brass, then is he going to hate your current choice for a living room fixture? If so, I might take a step back and see if you can return or replace your living room choice with something upon which you both agree and then match your other two fixtures to that. If there's no chance to get a non-brass finish in the living room but you want to avoid brass for the other two, that's not too hard. You could do something that is all glass or some other material with no metal finish on it whatsoever. If you are talking about blending another metal with brass, sometimes the oil-rubbed or Mediterranian bronze fixtures have flecks of gold/brass coloration in them, but again, if your husband doesn't like gold, then why go that direction at all? You say this is a "burnished brass" color, so without photos of the fixure, it's hard for us to tell what color direction the fixture is leaning, and in turn, what would go with it.

mandmsears - Have you thought about painting them? For our previous home (now 16 years old) we purchased very expensive ORB garage light fixtures from our local lighting store (not Lowe's or HD quality). The baked-on finish started fading after a year. They were only exposed to morning sun. By year two, they looked horrible! I was having some shutters put up and painted, so I asked the painters if they could paint the light fixtures. They agreed and took the fixtures down off of the house. They cleaned them and then used one can of Rust-Oleum ORB on each fixture. Not sure if they used a sealer of any kind. The fixtures looked fantastic! Never touched them again. When we moved out of the house 12 years later, those fixtures still looked brand new!!!

BTW - We used ORB lighting fixtures on our new house and have some black accents. We have ORB metal roofing accents an guttering, as well. Fixtures, guttering, and metal roofing almost look black.
