Picking paint now that I realize our carpet is seafoam/teal
Comments (46)So far I have liked a few of the small chips I've put up of off whites, but I don't think I've narrowed it down 100% yet.And obviously chips are not swatches, and swatches aren't quite the same as painting a full wall. I wasn't thinking of using the off whites and creams in my home at the time I picked up the sample pots a few weeks ago. I need to visit the local BM store this week and try a few more things out. I had a sample pot of palladian blue (to try in our bedroom) and put it up there (foyer and DR) just because I had it out. Oddly it seemed to work really well with the floor. Kind of a lighter version of what's on the floor (it seemed to read w/ more green in my house). It didn't look too terrible with the wood either since it has some warmth to it. I'm a tiny bit afraid that it might be oppressive with the carpet though? It is more of the look that the PO had (her walls were a more pastel, lighter version of the floor color). However, the Palladian Blue is not pastel, kinda muted/muddy, and more sophisticated than the more pastel blue that PO had up. Not sure if I want to go with it but I am considering it. It was not something I even thought would look remotely good w/ the carpet based on what I've seen elsewhere but it is one of my favs. Comfort gray isn't bad either, just a different look. DH think it wouldn't be too blue once we have curtains up, furniture in place, art on the walls, etc. When you enter you enter in the foyer and there is a hall straight back to the kitchen. In the foyer immediately to your left is what will be our study (PO's formal LR) and to the right is the DR. I'm thinking about using Palladian Blue in those rooms (DR and Study) and having the foyer be something more neutral like off white/cream. Both the Study and DR have the seafoam carpet, and the stairs (visible from foyer) have it as well. The rest of the house is more neutral (thankfully)....See MoreSo I picked out the paint colors and NOW---
Comments (21)If you do decide to change colors, I just thought I'd put in a suggestion to look at the Benjamin Moore Historic Collection of paints. There are some lovely tried and true colors there and some neutrals that would go with about any color scheme. If I'd gone that route in my remodel instead of just looking at the whole color spectrum it would've simplified my task amazingly and I'd probably be happier with the results. More choice is not always a good thing. I think the color decks are great from when you've got everything else all picked out and are looking for that perfect color to tie it together--otherwise a much narrower tried and true palate is much easier to work with....See Moredid I pick the wrong paint
Comments (3)it does not say its specificaly for aluminum; still the paint is very thin. It seems to cover though...hope it protects as well!...See MoreDidn't realize I'd have to pick PAINT right now!
Comments (8)I used a designer for the first time on this project, and she picked some really beautiful, neutral paint colors that I'd have NEVER picked off the sample cards - you should take a look at them, just see what you think: Sherwin Williams Tony Taupe: using in my entire living area, including kitchen, hallways, entry, etc. Sherwin Williams Balanced Beige: if the Tony Taupe feels like a little too much color, this beige is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. I have it in rooms w/light from every direction, and it never turns an "off" color, no matter the time of day. Benjamin Moore Ashley Grey: If you need something w/a more grey cast than a yellowish beige cast, this is really lovely. For a "white" w/just enough color to really compliment brighter colors, I like Benjamin Moore Cotton Balls. I used it in a room w/candy cane red cabinets, in a Laundry Room w/Pear Green cabinets, and in my pantry ... where I have the palest of blue cabinets done in Wedgewood Grey. From the card, I'd never dream it is the perfect robins-egg blue! Hope that helps a little - I get overwhelmed when it comes to paint colors, but don't be pressured: painting can easily be done after cabinetry. You just need to get a skim coat w/some texture over the sheetrock, and you'll be good until cabinets are in place....See Moresaycindy
