niche design help
Comments (29)We just had our hall bath shower re-done last fall, and my one regret is that I should've had the niche either made extra-wide OR I should've had two installed. I usually buy my girls the extra-large bottles of shampoo/conditioner -- you know, the ones with squirt bottles on top -- and those two bottles plus a large bottle of body wash is really all they can fit in the niche. When I have my shower re-done in a few weeks, I'm definitely going to go with two. Different topic: Don't neglect to talk about the tile you want "on the back" of your niche. That's the one hiccup I had with my installer. He thought I wanted the plain beige 12" tile, while I was thinking of the smaller accent tile to match the flooring. If I hadn't been home, I would've ended up with his choice instead of mine....See Moreopen concept - family kitchen dining design help
Comments (9)Your sitting room does look like a waiting room as Groveraxle said. I like the idea of a built in banquette around the perimeter of your sitting room. It could be used for lounging or dining. Also, I think what's throwing me off (and maybe you too) with your open concept is the big couch closing off the kitchen from the tv room. Because your big couch acts like a barrier, you end up with a noticeable dance floor between kitchen and tv room. If this were my house, I'd move the big couch to the wall where you have a chair and move your 2 chairs where your couch is. That way you can move your chairs further towards the kitchen to use up some of that dance floor space. It's kinda hard to tell but I think the rug in the tv room is too small, your furniture looks all crammed around it. From your photos it looks like you have a nice spacious kitchen and breakfast nook then big furniture crammed around a small rug in your tv room....See MoreFormal dining room niche
Comments (8)Sorry, I don't have the dimensions handy. Also by design center, this was a masterplanned house so I picked a floorplan and then I go to this "design center" to pick finishes and stuff. They only had one option to decorate that niche with and it was crazy expensive, something like 8k to add a countertop and some cabinets above and below so I figured I could do something much cooler on my own for less. I had thought about putting some wine storage in there, but I'm not sure. I like the ideas of putting some kind of accent wall in there, either textured or color. Thanks....See MoreNeed help! Comments (15)I think the dining table really style wise does not work with that fabulous kitchen so maybe start here with a not no so country table and if you have a TV somewhere else then maybe no TV in this space .The solar shades in 10% will help a lot with the heat and if those upper windows are tinted do they help it does not look like they are doing much so maybe those could have fixed solar shades installed . I think LRs that are not used have a reason for not being used so maybe try to have the kids play somehwere else and start using this space for adult entertaining , I often serve dessert in the LR or just begin a dinner party by having appies and wine in the LR I think this could be a nice spot . I might look at a Saarinen ding table with some color of chairs that can be chosen from a rug in the LR for instance Maybe the credenza used in the DR with a nice piece of art above it The kids stuff IMO needs to go somehwere else if you really want to have this a space that is used. As for furniture sofa and 2 chairs are always a nice choice for conversation . I dao garee the drpes to the ceiling would be a very formal look and the space is not really large enough .If the kids have to be there then a nice looking storage unit with all closed staorage can handle all the toys for after dinner when you are entertaining. Mayeb a bit more info as to how you live ....See MoreCarol Rivers
