Grout help with zellige tile please!
Comments (12)@peytonpoynter Is it true that Clé, Riad, and Zia Zellige tiles all come from the same source in Morocco? And that their white tiles are actually the same? I’m wondering how you figured that out or came to that conclusion. Thanks!...See MoreZellige "look" tile recommendations
Comments (44)I don't know if this matters to anyone, but I thought I would share. I was planning on using Zellige tiles for our upcoming bathroom renovation. I ordered samples from Cle and Zia and also a few other local places that carry Zellige. We tested the tiles for the presence of lead and they were all extremely high for lead levels, other than the unglazed options (which would require sealing). The test kit only detects lead at levels of at LEAST 600 ppm and these all tested immediately positive, so that is the very least amount they have. I would venture to say the are much higher than that based on the test. I wanted to share this, as I would have been extremely upset had I installed these and learned afterward....See MoreTell me your experience with Zellige tiles
Comments (10)Hi Erika! It was our installers first time with zellige, but they did not run into any real issues. It did take longer than they anticipated originally just because of the extra time it takes to soak the tiles. They also mitered the edges of the tile around the shower which is quite labor intensive. One thing I wish I would have done differently is specified the size of the shower niche to the installers, the tile is quite thick and they did not really take that into account when measuring the niche so it turned out a bit smaller than I would have liked. I did not deal with Riad tile directly, my contractor ordered the tile for us, but they had great customer service (I have heard the opposite about cle which I did order a sample from). Hope that helps!...See MoreZellige self install tips
Comments (2)Is this the beginning of your tile laying career? I had a seasoned tile professional install a backsplash with handmade tile just last week, and he had to resort to spacing tricks like using toothpicks as shims along with standard plastic spacers in order to make the grout lines straight. There's a lot of variation in handmade tile....See MoreKendrah
