POLL: Open or closed shelves in your primary bathroom?
Emily H
last year
All open, all the time!
Closed to hide my stuff (and potential mess).
It’s a mix, I need a bit of both in my world.
I don’t have a vanity in my primary bathroom.

Bathroom open shelves- how to decorate
Comments (10)We have this situation in our recent remodel bc there was a weird space in the wall (AC return, other stuff we didn't want to re-route) that forced us to have some wasted space behind the vanity. We could have just closed it up with drywall, but instead we decided to put some shelves in there. We still have some empty shelves, but this is what we have done so far: candles and bath products. For the remaining shelves, probably we will put a framed photograph, a nice piece of coral or large shell, or some pretty pottery. Below we don't have an open space like you do; it is a cabinet door. If you don't already have a good spot for a hamper, that might be a good place for one. If you already have a place for a hamper, you could put a smaller "dry-clean" hamper there for things you want to separate to take to the dry cleaners....See MorePrimary Bathroom & Antique French Door - Good Idea?
Comments (32)I have never had a closet accessed directly from a bathroom so I have no personal experience, only professional. One client claimed space aliens planted the mold on the clothes and were going to return to earth in 58.72 years to harvest the mold, but I have no way of verifying that. We have questioned a Cladosporium, but they have opted to rely on their fifth amendment rights so it lead to a dead end. Our research has been hindered by funding and time constraints so we rely partially on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention....See MoreNeed suggestions for this primary bathroom addition
Comments (26)I like the architect's and Cpartist"s plan. Your bathroom has more space in those plans. I would use a built in tub for ease of cleaning and easy entry into tub. I think your house on the exterior will look fine without windows in the closets. The windows will interfere with hanging your clothes. Can you add a window next to the bed as shown in Cpartist plan? How wide would the bedroom be if you removed the jog in the bedroom wall on the right? Or could you push the bottom right bedroom wall a couple inches into the bathroom to make the bedroom wall on the right straight?...See MorePrimary Bathroom: Toilet or Vanity in Front of Door?
Comments (53)When debating the size of the shower, make sure that you know the actual finished interior dimensions of the space. Things like any pony walls or newly created alcoves will eat away considerable inches of the finished interior shower space. My shower in the master is approx. 36 x 48. It's fine. Not too big and not too small. Long cold winters here in Wisconsin--I would not a larger shower (cold/ drafty) in this climate! (8' ceilings, too, vs a potentially drafty shower with your 10' ceiling.) IMO, two sinks in a 60" vanity is one too many. You give up counter space and, more significantly, cabinet space below. The supply lines, the drain and the bowl will reduce the usable space underneath the sink by at least half. Two people using sinks at the same time is a crowd. Worse in a small bathroom when the person using a sink nearest the door has to move to allow the other exit or entrance. Double the plumbing cost, double the cleaning required, double the potential plumbing problems and, twice as many faucets to replace if one goes bad or if you just want to change the look. With another bathroom down the halls, I would absolutely use only one sink in this bathroom. Two sinks make sense in huge bathrooms but preferably in two separate vanities with lots of space between....See Morelittlebug Zone 5 Missouri
