We've always had wood baseboards in our bathrooms - I think a personal choice.

We had tild before, in our current reno, we went with wood. i think it looks better and the tile guy told me that people arent doing the tile ones much anymore.

Did they cut a piece of the floor tile to make the sample baseboard? Not sure I’d like that since it’s not finished on top edge.

The wood baseboard throughout the house is flush with the drywall with a 3/8 reveal. I could do the same in the bathroom. No need for a cove edge and no worries about it being unfinished. Well... it is a through-body tile so the edge could be polished and it will have the spots on the top too.

And in a bath like that I would align it with the threshold of the shower so there is one horizontal.

Yes, I would do that. The baseboard in the rest of the house is going to be painted to match the wall but semi-gloss.

With all the moisture in the bathroom, it's the one place I prefer painted wood and tile wherever possible so we took our wood baseboards out and put in tile which was an expected finish for the tile wainscotting IMPO.

My husband pulled out the wood baseboard the kids bathroom. It was moldy on the backside near the tub. It grossed me out, but I have to say we are installing the board again. It’s what we did in the rest of the bathrooms. Cohesive

Already installed issues? I never post already installed issues. Once its done it's done. Last minute questions maybe. That's what you get when you only have a certain amount of insurance money after a fire and need to do design yourself. I love this bathroom.

I may protect the walls in there with tile because tenants (and maids) can be careless with mops and vacuums. Being flush will make it look unique in any case.

I would do either the tile baseboard (just have them polish the top portion) or do a simple white molding baseboard. no wood. no other element in there, against that terrazzo

Here's a quartzite baseboard we did, same as the floor, shower and backsplash.

For a rental--high-end or not--I wouldn't use wood if there's a choice. If the floor is flooded, don't expect anyone rushing in to clean it up.

Looks great. I certainly have left over tile to do the baseboards.

@palimpsest I like the idea of using the flooring as the baseboard downstairs at my place. I'm a little worried the look as it dead ends into my walnut kitchen cabinets. How's it look?

Sorry baseboard is not in anyway like flooring . As for the flush thing IIMO overthinking is always a bad idea. I think the tile has much more finished look but the edge needs finishing no matter what and polishing individual tiles will run in to big $$$$ for honestly no benefit do a schluter edge and forget the flush idea for a bathroom and really no one I know checks out baseboards .To be honest I have no idea why the blue with hose floors I do not see one blue dot.You needed to have one solid piece for the shower theshhold .

It's best if the recessed base be relatively narrow if you are going to do something like matching the floor. If you are going to match the wall it can be a bit taller.

The other minimalist option would be to go a full museum reveal where there is a 1" recess at the bottom of the wall and no base at all.

I don't think this is particularly practical because people do run vacuums and put furniture close to walls and things, and it's not very durable. In a museum, people are generally kept away from the walls and the rooms are frequently repainted.

I wouldn't call recessed base "over thinking" I would call it difficult to do properly and therefore more expensive and therefore likely to scare people off on multiple fronts. I agree it is much easier to just bang up a thick board over the sloppily cut bottom edge of a piece of drywall and call it done, fast and cheap. But not everybody wants that.

Well, I cut the drywall at the height of the shower curb. I'm doing flush tile with a 3/8 reveal at the top. I like that little shadow. I'll keep the downstairs flush painted wood.

The photo of the bathroom does not do it justice. I'll post when I get it done. The floor looks like blue gray terrazzo. The illusion is great. I'm sure it's radiating off the walls but it looks amazing in person. I don't like matchy matchy so much anyway. Also, there is not one good reason to have a solid piece on the shower threshold that I can think of. It would break up the room!

I have a STR with painted wood baseboards. Starting our 12th year with no problems with the baseboards. It is oceanfront with high humidity, lots of kids and inebriated adults showering.

I do have issues with the drywall in one area above the baseboard and I do have one ledge that has a PVC quarterround now. But it was a shower curtain on a 3 inch curb so it was asking for issues - When I changed to a door, I threw in PVC. There was no other tile as baseboard but it was an obvious oversight in retrospect.

Flush base is a high end (more $$) detail whether level 5 or not, its just a lot more labor and some detailing by both the drywall crew & finish carpenters or in this case tile contractor.

Wood is a common standard in bathrooms w tile base as an upgrade.

I don't have advice for your baseboard. But I wanted to say I love your shower tile. And the way it goes with your floor tile. I hope you post pics of it as it gets done so we can see the whole thing :)
