The ripping thing sounds weird to me. I've been wearing disposables for decades and I don't remember ever ripping any. As for ordering, my optometrist orders from B&L and I get them within a couple days. Are multivisions custom produced?

Not any more custom than typical lenses (went and looked, they're listed on the same pages as typical boxed lenses)

I have learned to use my ringer finger to clean when I had the permanent ones, so as not to rip. But this wasn't that. I have no idea how it ripped??? Rubbed my eyes, and maybe it happened when I was taking them out, or... Who knows. I just know I am rough on lenses?

Are you sure you can't get 'forever' lenses? I've worn gas permeables for decades. If you look after them they last years. I got my latest pair in November 2022 and I mentioned to the optician that I was thinking maybe I should change to soft lenses and she asked why. According to her gas permeable are actually better for eye health. No problem obtaining them here.

I use Cooper Vision, proclear trifocal contact lenses. Absolute best price I found was from Sam's club. $45 per box, NO processing , free delivery the cost at some of the online places absolutely ridiculous plus they charged a""processing " fee about $39 per box!

I have to think it's a health issue floral. I did comment on it, and he shook his head, almost violently? Hard pass. I know you and I are great at cleaning (I just scrub too hard ;) but it's not looking good for the rest of the population. Here's what I mean. I assume the heavy handed US is doing this for its "own good" like making raw milk incredibly hard to find.

I would suggest that you contact another place. It could be something about your eyes currently that your eye doctor does not want you to wear them but they are still being made and sold in the US. It does appear that only one company makes them but sells them under several brand names.

That actually sounds like it would be special order? One would be a multifocal, and the other a toric/multifocal.

How about Costco?

Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) lenses have been around since the 1960’s. Newer RGP lenses offer the advantage of allowing more oxygen to pass through to the eye. They are often referred to as oxygen permeable lenses and are available in daily wear and extended wear options.

I’ve been wearing soft (monovision) lenses for years. I didn’t like peeling them off my eye to take them out at first but the advantages are not losing them unexpectedly and never that awful pain from wind blown dirt in the eye.

I had been thinking of lasik and switching to soft was to help the transition.

Just a question but at one time I was told that the presciption for hard lens were slightly different than for soft ones. I ended up not getting either because the doctor thought I would have problems with dry eyes because of allergies.

They should be.....are you sure? I've been wearing RGP (rigid gas permeable) lenses since the mid 80s; I was wearing hard contact lenses since 1976, and I switched to RGP. I wear them 16-18 hours a day, and get a new pair every couple of years; mine are multifocal. Mine take about a week after I order them.

I had reusable lens, never RGP, just to be clear (Man, it took me forever to find that term). When I asked about them, he was NOT about to let me go down that path. He's a new provider, and we don't have a feel for each other. I didn't feel like fighting it. I also might not mind new lenses every month. I guess. Times change!

I went from RGP lenses to daily soft lenses. RGPs have the crispest vision, but i find soft lenses trounce gas permeables in other areas. Much more confortable, a new fresh lens every day, no fear of dropping and losing or damaging one, you never have to clean them-just toss at the end of the day, no painful dust or debri under the lens. I wore hard lenses then gas permeables since the 70’s and switched a couple of years ago. I’d never go back! DH ordered my last RX thru lens.com and tbey were backordered. Previosly I got them thru the eye DR but its pricey doing that. My lenses have never ripped and I’m not careful with them. Your eye DR should be able to get you several days of free trials. It costs nothing to try them out to see if you like them. I’ve never once heard one type of lens is healthier than the other.

I asked my optometrist about changing.....RGP lens wearers are a pretty small minority (<10%), so I thought I might have to change someday soon. He told me that if he had his druthers, all his patients would be on RGP lenses......Hopefully that means doctors will still be prescribing them and I won't have to change because they're no longer available.

I may be missing it, but I don't see anybody suggesting anything outside of the 7 to 14 business days. Oh well. I guess it must be typical.

I too have been wearing rigid gas permeable contacts for decades. They better not stop making them because my prescription is too high for soft lenses.

I have to have cataract surgery and even then I will still have to wear contacts. My surgeon said I will want to stick with RGP lenses because I won't be happy with the clarity of vision from the soft lenses.

I sometimes run out of contacts before I get my eyes checked again. I've had luck calling my eye doctor and saying I need to get my eyes checked. I'm out of contacts, may I come in and get a pair to get me through the next few days. They give me a pair. They don't carry them for sale, but do keep a supply for people with new prescriptions to try them out.
