Are heat pumps worth it?

I think I'm a prime candidate for installing a heat pump for my space heating. I am using an electric boiler (resistance) to heat the water for my hydronic in floor radiant heating system. Options are (in order of expense):

1. Add a mini-split heat pump to heat the ambient air in my house, which will reduce demand on my boiler.

2. Get an air-to-water heat pump to heat the water. Even if it's not heated enough, it would feed the boiler which will still be there.

3. Get a ground-sourced heat pump and continue as above.

The real question is what is the payback time? Due to my age, I'm not interested in anything with more than 20 years. My current wintertime electric bills average $400/mo.
