Ideas for the wall under floating shelf and tv

This is a home from the 80s. We've done upgrades and changes. The fireplace we've painted, re-tiled, and changed it's old mantel into this floating shelf. It still needs protective glass. However, the empty wall under the tv is bugging me. It's just empty and there. The position of the fireplace on the corner and the height of the shelf are not giving me a lot of space to play around. I can only think of molding. Maybe zig zag panels? Or wainscoting? What do experts think of this? Also, should it be white like the trim or the wall color (sw, worldly gray)? Or both like in one of these pictures?
This space is overlooking white cabinets kitchen and gray granite counter top.

Actually you have such clean lines I wouldn't add molding. I don't think it looks bad at all

Not sure why the floating shelf along the whole wall which limits use of wall and makes TV positioned so high?

Not sure that is going to be very practical, out in the middle of the floor. I have seen the lift systems on HGTV, and you can make it so the TV not only lifts but could swivel to face either the sectional or the kitchen. It just doesn't seem like the best use of the space. I am also wondering about the scale of the drawing. The island with the stools seems like the stools are way to small, looking at the proportion of the breakfast table chairs and the sectional you have drawn on there. What about putting the tv on the wall toward the top left, where the small side of the sectional is, then putting the sectional so the short end is opposite where it is now, and the long side would run about where you have drawn the TV cabinet? That way the TV would also be visible from the dining area and the kitchen. I am also wondering if the dining area has to be smack in the middle of the room, or if it could be moved further down in the area, toward the wall by the stair? Seems like that might give you more placement options of furniture. If you don't already own the sectional, obviously you can change the furniture choices to be more flexible as well. @Ashley George - if you’re asking about the photo right before your question, I’ve seen many of these for sale. The least expensive option that has good reviews is starting with IKEA pieces of furniture. I’ve never bought anything from IKEA but am trying to decide about how to arrange a media wall. IKEA has some pieces that can be floated even though they aren’t marketed that way. Some of their consoles are meant to be hung on the wall. I am still considering this option: Samsung - the frame TVs. Really cool. Come with a lot of art loaded. You pick your frame. TV sits flat against wall.

If you want to have a 3cm shelf around 5-6" deep to cap a stone backsplash, ask your fabricator if they can drill 1/2" dia. holes to accept hanger bolts. 3/8" x 6" hanger bolts can be screwed into studs, leave at least 3" protruding from the wall, alternatively you can use 3/8" x 7" lag screws, this might be easier to screw into the wall, and then grind the hex head off after in place. The stone installer will need to put epoxy in each hole to allow it to set around the support. Be sure the supports are perfectly level, and placed in the middle of the stone shelf.

what about running the same tile from the fireplace across the bottom. I think you would have to panel the whole room, otherwise your drawing the eye down. I think its fine the way it is, but can you do something about the two cover plates?

The blue chair seems to be semi out of place. can we see the whole room?

When you extend the tile........ all the way to the far wall? Have an electrician die the outlets at the circuit box, then tile over. You can't "bury" live electrical.

You have a contemporary style home. Don't start ruining it with added wall moldings!!

Here are two options for your wall. IMO a simple application of charcoal paint below your mantle will solve your dilemma.

Then select some framed art that makes a statement to install above the mantle.

I'd also select a larger TV screen for this area. Mount it flat against the wall.

Very nice fireplace! I would play up the modern aspec of it and definately continue the marble all the way across in a horizontal stack, That may require changing the marble sides so they are also placed horizontally. Then I would paint the top portions a dark color, keeping the niches a whitish color or painting them a shade or two lighter. I would also suggest being on the lookout for modern ceramic/porcelain vases to fill the niches.

The mockup didn't turn out quite as well as I had hoped because the marble is too faded out/shadowed in the pic.

Can you take a straight on pic of the entire fireplace wall?
