Builder grade kitchen cabinet dilemma!

Hi everyone,
These are the options we are getting from the design centre for kitchen cabinets aristokraft brand. Not really loving any of these. Stone gray is nice maybe.The.The kitchen is L shaped.... Thinking to have island in different colour cabinets... please share what colour combination could work. Thanks

IMO you want a full overlay cabinet for starters.

You can combine some very nice materials to make simple cabinets look special.

Our last kitchen was only $3-4k to paint (it was a professional) so I was expecting around that cost again but we must have gotten a good deal through our contractor! I will definitely look into replacing instead. They are great cabinets and I know lots of people love them, I just don't love the color :( I'm a white kitchen type of person!

And here's a long shot of the total effect. They look a lot like built-ins. Because they AREN'T built-ins, we left a bigger space above the counter (partly because the TV needed it, but even if it hadn't, I'd have left a space so it looked like there was a "reason" we switched from one to the other. NOW...our fireplace is a bigger focal point than your TV, and our wall juts out there. So we left that big display space. Plus, we have no windows. In YOUR case, w/ those windows taking up so much of the wall, and your TV so low (and it being a TV, which to me is more functional and less decorative), I might consider whether I wanted a built-in look in the middle as well--sort of a "full wall" effect, wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling, with an empty space where the TV goes. If I wanted to do that, I'd want a backing on my upper shelves so it looked more like the whole thing was one unit. And with a "full wall" effect, I might even consider whether I wanted it all to be painted the same color as the other walls (or maybe white like the woodwork), so it was less like "kitchen cabinetry" or "furniture" and more like "part of the room / woodwork." That would keep the full wall of storage from overpowering the room, perhaps.

I would see about adding some glass door cabinets above the ones you have, I think art that mimics looking out a window to some place you love would be best above the sink. I agree a counter depth fridge and no to the panels on either side fridges need air all around them unless made to be built in. The rest keep as is for now and down the road if the soace functions well then you can always paint the cabinets and remove that small strip of backsplash you have and replace with tile.Yes to some nice knobs or pulls but for use to advise that we need to know a bit more about your style.

prefer the burlap for the non white selection. then a white or lighter with it. burlap lowers and the light option that works best for the uppers. any upgrade allowing glass doors I'd take. the burlap is a richer color than the stone. a lot nicer when you choose the floor. Drawers?? do ask if you can have.......Instead of 48 in deep island??? can you do 39 inch total depth with 24 in deep cabinets and 15 in overhang ??? allows for a couple stools. Not clear what the 48 depth is for......as to comment re : avoidance of All white....do factor there is no window here..all white can be the better solution.....layer details w hardware/ backsplash/ 2 counters [w island to work with ] / floor....many things yet.... I would not be so adamant against all white here . the little ?butler? pantry is a great opportunity for Full CONTRAST w the white main area .....dark cabinets/ change of hardware/ bolder wall color / same contrast of counter that you would use on island. Dont fear basic white kitchen / jewel of opportunities -pantry and island .

I would check out Beverly's pics. The more taupe colored cabinets with a whiter top and some color on the backsplash is stylish and won't provide that extravaganza of white. I think it will age better too.

Basic cabinets can be quite nice.

If you can't choose a good backplash - WAIT and do it after you move in. Same for hardware - make it substantial - maybe an aged brass or bronze.

Full overlay is a given.

Maybe consider an interior designer to help you make the most of standard choices. You could easily use the standard options and end up with a better result that others get with upgrades!

IMO all the same color for cabinets will be much more timeless than the 2 tones. What colors do you use for decor. Are you a warm beige or a cool gray type . Waht are the floors this is not decided in avacuum .I have never been a taupe lover so I would do a nice close to pure white and then have the freedom to change other things down the road. BTW full overlay for sure

If drawers are available even as an upgrade do put some in, even if it's just the ones under the cooktop for your pots/pans. If you can do more then consider it.

Hello Everyone,

So we had our first appointment at the design center. Sharing some combinations we selected and obviously re-thinking and losing sleep over it!

Some advices were really helpful like overlay cabinets, drawers for pot and pans, deciding the floor colours, choosing warm or cool colour scheme, choosing a standard faucet and changing them later... So thank you again!

They don't allow 2 tone cabinets as in upper and lower in 2 colours.. only the island cabinets could be a different colour so for have chosen now Admiral blue and Gray we both liked Silestone Pietra Quartz over calcutta quartz ... with our Indian cooking and spices I think the former would work better. Also, felt that Pietra had colours from both the cabinets in it.

There were very limited backsplash options but we liked beveled subway tiles.

Direction wise, the windows are facing east.

For Primary bathroom, instead of gray, we went with warm brown (Burlap I think) but the floor seems a little boring now. I might need to change the colour in our next meeting.

Bathroom has 2 windows over the tub facing west and 1 more near the shower.

Sharing pics for suggestions incase we are overlooking anything. Thanks a ton again.

Your finish decisions need to grow from the floor up - so is the wood look floor going everywhere and the off white tile going in all bathrooms?

Yes, floor is LVP wheat oak and going everywhere except bathrooms. These white beveled tiles are only for kitchen backsplash.

The builder is giving different selections for bathrooms. There is 1 guest full bath on 1st floor and 1 primary +2 secondary baths on 2nd floor. Are all secondary bathrooms supposed to have same finishes or can we have different tiles etc.

Can you get your upper cabinets to go to the ceiling versus having them end below the ceiling?
