cathd66, I didn't forget to factor in the hatching time or the growing time when I did my originial calculations. I even figured these times at the high end of the average times. lkittle, I understand what you are saying about the coating being counted as part of the weight. But, since these cocoons are sold by the 1000 count, I don't see that coating (or no coating) would factor in; unless the coating would hinder the hatch or increase the time needed for hatch. Worms or cocoons to start with... they each seem to have their pros and their cons. And, checking the pros against the cons has yet to help me make up my mind which way I want to start. I would like to have some worms to fish with around the last of April or first of May. But, my life won't end if I don't have them! After careful cogitation about the subject, I am seriously considering buying a pound of EN worms and 1000 EN cocoons! That way, I can kind of have my cake and eat it too!! If I go this route, would you suggest putting them all in the same bin? Or, would you suggest putting worms in one bin and cocoons in another? I guess that I could put each in their own bin... kind of as an experiment. That way, I could see which way works out best, huh?? Thanks again for all of your input! Robert

Since you've gotten no responses so far, I guess I can toss out a name based upon my experiences. I got a 3 pounds of Euros from these guys over a year ago and was quite happy. http://www.earthworms4sale.com/european-nightcrawlers.php I've actually ordered Euros and Red Wigglers and African NC from several different sources over the last year and a half and had mix results. One dealer I had to pursue for over a month to finally get my worms (they claim my order got lost then said Paypal forgot to notify them of the payment)... another dealer sent a decent 3 pounds one time only to follow-up on a second order with small and under weight shipment the next time that was mostly peat moss and very dehydrated worms (I think Uncle Jim's must use other local worm farmers to fulfill his orders and that would explain the huge difference in quantities between those two back-to-back shipments). Now the guys I linked to above provided me fat, healthy, and what appeared to be over-weight quantities both times I've ordered from them... one order was for Red Wigglers and the second order was for Euros... I was greatly pleased with both shipments. However you should take this all with a grain of salt, as its just based upon my own personal experiences.... so YMMV.
